Help, the husband has seen the growing pile of stamps. I just can't stop buying, is there a group out there "Stampers Anonymous"? I see a set and I come here to this gallery and see all the wonderful ideas and just have to have the set.. Help, if I don't stop my kids may not get anything for Christmas, well maybe some stamps..
VT stamper, it sounds to me like you already passed the point of no return.
Besides....who would want to stop buying stamps. That is just not right. Cami had the right idea. Sign up as a demo so you get the discount and you get to write all those stamp sets off as business expense.
YES! You need to sign up and become a Demo. If you are going to continue to buy stamps, you can at least get a discount! Tell your husband that you are saving him money by signing up.

They don't really need Christmas presents now do they? Just wrap up the ones that have been in the closet that they do not play with or may of forgotten, or buy batteries for the one you never really wanted to hear from again.
I read on here somewhere about the 12 step program ( never be further than 12 steps from your stamps) We are really no help are we?

Signing up as a demo didn't work for me. If anything it made me buy more thinking "oh the girls will love that one I have to demo it. If anything its putting me into bankruptcy.
I asked my sister-in-law (who is also addicted!) the other day if there was a pill or something that we could take to heal our addiction! So far I haven't heard of anything but PLEASE if anyone has let me know.
Isn't it comforting to know that you are not alone and there are lots of others out there like you!
The only way is to LEAVE THIS BOARD IMMEDIATELY! You'll never stop wanting and buying more if you come here!!! Seriously though, why would you want to?!?!?!?!
I used to say, "I have enough, I'm not buying any more stamps," then another mini would arrive, or I'd look through the catty again, and there I'd go, ordering more. I've given up. There is no cure, so just eat some chocolate and buy more stamps!
You're asking the wrong people!!!! I'm sure someone else already said that but I couldn't resist! Now, I'll go read the thread since I'm sure it will be good for a laugh.
With Christmas a little over a month away and big gifts in mind for family this year, I've allowed myself to buy 1 set, 1 wheel and that awesome wheel guide from the Winter Mini (MUST HAVES) !!!
I then decided to ask my friends (also my Stamp Club Members) if I could borrow different sets that they have to make samples. As a thank you, I make extra samples to give to the owner of the set !!! I get to try new sets (and know which to add to my wish list ) and my friends get samples for their sets !!! Oh yeah, and then I have more samples to show at workshops and classes and to post on my website.
Fine, it isn't the same as buying your own sets, but if you have to stop (for a few months), this is the way to do it without going into shock from not being able to buy stamps !!!
There are worse addictions out there. I say, stick with the stamps!
That's how I justify my purchases...I say..."I could be out drinking in bars"...so to me..this is a much safer, healthier addiction....and I love it!!!!
Julie HRR made me laugh out loud!! Resistance is indeed futile! And I loved the one about wrapping up the toys the kids hadn't played with from last year as Christmas presents. You made my day all of you! (and resistance is futile!!)
All kidding aside, I'm a little disturbed by the advice you've given this gal. I'm assuming her post was all in fun, but having been mired in serious debt myself at various times of my life, this isn't exactly a laughing matter. This is a fun hobby, but it doesn't need to always be about BUY BUY BUY. That's fine if it's money you have to burn, but if you are spending money that should be earmarked for other things or going into credit card debt to buy this stuff, that's not necessarily a good thing.
My advice to VTStamper is to get a little more mileage out of the stamps you already have. Check the gallery and make some new projects with your existing stamps or get together with other demos in your area so you can share stamps and ideas. Do some swaps so you can get cards with stamps you don't own. Maybe re-think your wish list to a few "must have" sets and spread them out over a few months ago. Keep in mind that a LOT of these sets will be retired next summer and there will be a whole NEW list of gotta haves. Try to keep it in perspective and you can still have fun and your husband and kids will be a whole lot happier too!
I love Myra's idea to share with stamps with your friends! I tried to reply to a thread about demos sharing their stamps with customers and before I got my answer typed, it had been moved to the demo forum and I could no longer reply to it! My demo is great about sharing her stamps with me and I try to take extra care of them. I am also more than happy to share mine with her and I hope I help her out by doing this as well! This helps us both get to use more stamps than we can afford by ourselves.
I am a demo and I set aside Monday nights as free stamp nights for my customers to come over and use my stamps and accessories. I don't charge anything, but I ask them to bring their own cardstock and adhesives. I find it is a lot less work than setting up an actual Stamp Camp and it's just another way to get them "hooked" on stamping, so I'm hoping eventually, it will pay off with higher sales.
I also have at least half a dozen other demos that I stamp with regularly. Sometimes they come here and sometimes I go to their Stamp Camps and other events. That way we all get a LOT of mileage out of our stuff! I also try to manage my spending so as not to bankrupt myself on buying stamps and things and I NEVER put anything on a credit card. I've been down that road and only came out of it through the grace of God and I never want to go back.
someone once told me that when they buy stamps, say a 30.00 set, she says how much can I use it. Each use is considered 1.00-3.00. Now, if you feel you can't use that stamp at least 20-30 times, then maybe you should look at something else.
If this doesn't help, then become a demo or start hiding your stamps from your husband better
Although I enjoy getting new stamps & have a list of those I'd like, I think many stampers - me included - don't spend enough time exploring all the possibilities of the stamps we have. So put some of your stamp sets away for awhile and concentrate on one or two sets. Try different techniques, formats, layouts & color families etc. to get different looks. I've been playing with Ageless Adornment for over a month now and I still am not close to exhausting all of its possibilities.
Rotating works with kid toys, so why not with our toys?
If that doesn't work, take a look at the Buy/Sell/Trade forum (no, NOT to buy!!) Every one of those stamp sets up for sale was a "got to have" for somebody, but now they're a "got to go"!
Being a SAHM of 3 and on a VERY limited budget, I have had to limit myself to what stamps sets I can buy. I have also had to learn how to look at an idea and use it with the stamps I already have. That's the key. You can make the awesome card you just saw with ALMOST ANY stamp set. Just replace the stamped image with one using a stamp set you ALREADY have. I have found that the possibilities are endless. When you begin looking at making projects, ask yourself, "What stamp set do I have that will work best for this project?" When I started putting this into practice, I purchased a lot less stamp sets. There is the occasional set that I just have to have, but I tend to get a lot more use out of the ones I get. Hope I have helped.
Try trading or selling some of your old stamps ti pay for the ones you want. Or get a group of girls together (like a stampers 10) and each buy a different set each month that way you are spening alot less and you know who has what!

Spammie - what a GREAT quote! I think that pretty much says it all.
I'm a demo and will be inactive demo at the end of the year. I haven't placed an order since July and wasn't going to (except to pre-order the Sell-a-bration sets). Now SU is offering FREE SHIPPING! UGH!!!! I came right home from work and compiled a list of almost $300 worth of stuff...but I get my discount PLUS free shipping!
My poor family is getting stamped stuff for Christmas because that's all I will be able to afford!
Yes...this is THE WORST PLACE to come if you are looking for a way to stop buying stamps...we will only encourage you to BUY MORE!
~~~buy more stamps...buy more stamps...buy more stamps~~~
