When you are using a pricey paper like Stampin Ups Champagne Glimmer Paper, do you use a full piece of it under the image that is stamped on card stock, or do you create a frame of the fancy paper and keep the cut-out piece for another use? If you make a frame, do you put plain card stock in the center of it to keep a constant thickness under the stamped image?
I tend to just squint my eyes and watch the play of light across the glimmer paper, before stroking it lovingly!
Erm.... seriously though, the frame thing sounds like a great idea but I'd only bother if the cut-out would end up 2x2" or larger. But I'm lazy!
Gluing stuff on top of glimmer paper is a bit dicey IMHO so I'd probably stick the stamped layer on with dimensionals into the opening to both raise it up and actually be confident it'll stick.

I often cut out the middle of my matting papers. Just cheap I guess! It cuts down the weight for mailing and I keep the resulting squares for punching shapes from. It doesn't have to be expensive paper either. I have never had any problem adhering my stamped images over the 'hole'.
I punch out a shape if it is big enough, usually a scalloped circle. I don't bother to fill it in with anything -- I don't see a noticeable difference.
