If you don't mind holes on your photos I don't see why you can't. You mean to sort of "showcase" something in the picture?

An true archiver would say never to use any metal on pictures. I do though and have had no problems. I made a wall hanging and had the paper clips and the photo placers on the photos last winter when I got my hardware and there is a small indentation where the clips are. The others haven't left a mark yet.

Yes you can - but I don't think it's particularly archival. It does work, though, if you're making photo cubes or something similar.
