Help for those who want to upload pics to the gallery
In another thread I started about why people don't have galleries, I noticed a recurring theme among the vast variety of responses/reasons: some just don't know how to get the photos from the camera (phone, tablet, whatever) onto the computer or how to resize them once they're there.
I'm sure that there are other options available, but I just wanted to throw out a very user-friendly (and free!) program - Google Picasa. I've been using it for awhile, and I am not a techie, by any stretch!
Here's what I do:
Plug the USB cable that came with my camera into the camera and into the USB port on my laptop
Open the Picasa program
Turn the camera on
Click on the "import" button in Picasa. There is a drop-down menu, and I just select my camera
All of the photos on my camera will show up as thumbnails. You can choose whether to import them all, exclude duplicates, etc., and what happens to the memory card after the import - leave it alone, delete only imported photos, delete everything, etc.
After they import, I turn the camera off and disconnect it from my laptop
You can edit the photo in many ways, and they are all easily executed (and reversible, if needed)
After you've edited the photo to your liking, you can click on a photo to select it, click the "file" button to get a menu, and select "export picture to folder". I have a folder in my pictures library titled "Cards" that I export to (go figure...)
When you click the export button, it presents you with a dialog box for options. One of them is to resize the photo. The default is 1600 pixels, and I've never had a problem uploading with that size.
There are tips HERE on uploading, and HERE is where you actually do it! It's pretty self-explanatory, but if you're unsure about anything, there are plenty of helpful folk here on SCS that will answer your questions!
There! One less reason you can use to not have a gallery! Go - NOW! - upload some pretties for us to drool over and comment on and love and CASE!
One of those uploading tips in your first link is now redundant - the size one. And to a degree the file type, mine are always png format ;-).
LOL at the "after they import I turn the camera off and disconnect it". I can't tell you how often I've run the battery down totally by forgetting to do that  - so I'm glad to use a card reader most of the time.

Although I have Photoshop Elements on my computer, my preference (for ease of use) is Picasa!! I'm not a techie either, and Elements just requires more time to master than I'm willing to give.
I promise to start again. I got an iPad for Mother's Day last year, with built in camera, and use that exclusively now for taking pictures of my projects. For a while, I could not upload to SCS from it (and just didn't have the time to research HOW to resize). That seems to have been solved. Looking forward to seeing more and sharing more!
If your camera has a memory card, and your computer a card reader, you do not need the USB cable.
I've been thinking about going back to using a cable as I keep running through the memory cards too quickly. The constant in and out of camera to computer to camera (and yes, occasionally my pocket in between the two :oops tends to wear them out and those little buggers can be pricey. Thanks for the advise on using Picasa-I still haven't adjusted to the program on my new laptop and miss my old Microsoft Office Picture Manager from the old one. Maybe I'll give it a whirl.....sometimes I really get tired of having to learn new tricks. I think sometimes I'd be happier if technology stayed the same and didn't keep getting "better"
Wonderful instructions, Sue! Another Picasa fan here. I have a couple of other photo-editing programs, but much prefer Picasa.

It all just sounds TOO difficult, so I don't upload anything!
It really is easy, but I understand if you prefer not to check it out - everyone's got to do what they're comfortable with, ya know? I know how to do it and still don't add to my gallery as often as I should because of time issues (mostly the making of the card, not the uploading process).
I find the process of getting decent pictures to be far more intimidating and time consuming than the actual upload. I have a great camera, so no good excuse for it really....

I laughed a little when I read this, because I've done the craziest contortions of "stuff" and lights to get a decent shot. I don't have a dedicated area for that and I'm almost always trying to get the photos in the middle of the night when there's no natural light. I just do the best I can with my little point and shoot (I have ZERO idea what any of the settings are/mean except the little flower - it's the icon for the macro setting so close-up shots aren't fuzzy) and let Picasa save me!
I just thought of one thing in the (now not so new) uploader that could be clearer! Sometimes when they first use it, people think that they MUST choose a gallery even if there isn't an appropriate one. But to upload to your member gallery - if you haven't used SU stamps, or a technique that features in the Tutorials section, or it's not suitable for the Scrapbooking or Anything But A Card categories - just don't make any selection from the dropdown lists.
But if it does fit in a gallery, it's great to upload to the appropriate gallery. People often browse them for inspiration, and when they're in the right gallery, it's like being able to go straight to the right shelf in the library to find what you're looking for ;-).
I use Picasa too. It is very easy and like the free part too. Once you get the hang of it, it is very simple and easy to use and do. I think PicMonkey is free too.
I take the SD card out of my camera and put it into a card reader and plug it into a USB port. I choose to open the file with the pictures and I save them to my desktop. Then I just upload them from there. If I want to crop, I use a photo studio program that came with my computer. Recently I've been using my cell phone and it has a crop feature so I can crop them before I even save them. Then I just upload them from the gallery on my phone.
