Default How do you stamp unmounted?

With all this talk of wishing SU would sell without wood has me very curious. How does one stamp if the rubber isn't mounted to the wood. Forgive me for my lack of understanding. I'm super new to stamping.

Thanks,
Melissa

I take all my rubber and put it on smart cling, or ez cling (whatever it's called) and use acrylic blocks. Stamps that are unmounted take up much less room.

I have actually seen someone stamp with just the rubber. But, unmounted isn't really totally unmounted. It just means that they aren't permanently attached to a mount. You store them in CD cases or binders. They are on a different type of foam, or are acrylic, and you use reusable acrylic mounts. You have to "mount" them each time you use them.

UMs haven't been that popular until recently so it's not a strange question!

There are two types of unmounted stamps...the real rubber stamps and then acrylic (clear) stamps. Both of these get stuck on to an acrylic block. With the clear that's it and you are ready to stamp.

With rubber you have several choices. My method is to use the ez cling (aka creative cling as TAC calls it but it's available alot of places). TAC sells its stamps with the cling right away but some places, when you order online, you may just get a slab of rubber! Other folks use double sided tape, carpet tape, or Aleene's Tack it Over.

There are many threads out there on the pros and cons of the different mounting methods. The benefits are that UMs are cheaper and take less storage space.

That is true, you don't really stamp "unmounted". You just store unmounted. You do have to mount each stamp as you use it.

I'm a visual girl so I thought you might like to see a sample of the cling mounting. Check out the Sunday International site under "How To Info".
