Help a new stamper!

Ok Ladies, I'm fairly new. I'm placing an order and want to know if I should purchase the Watercolor Pencils or the Watercolor Crayons...what is really the difference?

mightymouse 07-20-2005 06:20 PM

Their is a huge difference in the cost is that a factor at all?

Here on this link is some helpful answer to watercolor crayons. I personally prefer them over the pencils. It takes less pressure on the hands to use them if you might have a soft tissue disorder. My SIL loves her pencils so it's mainly going to be a matter of preference. Other than that you'll find out more on the link.

I only have the watercolor pencils so far, but am considering the crayons. Here are the pro's I've gathered so far.
Pencils
* nice price point
* easy to blend if you use a fairly light touch
* easy to transport

Crayons (never used myself)
* offered in 48 SU shades (pencils are not in SU colors)
* can color directly on stamp & mist , pick up color with aquapainter or color directly on paper.
* can use entire crayon - no wasted wood coating.
* have heard they blend really well.

Hi,
I don't have them yet (the key word) I do have the pencils. they are different. the crayons you can use like pencils, color and water blend done. you can also take an aquapainter, brush, blender pen right on the edge of the crayon and "pick up" color and paint like artest watercolors. Now for the best. You can color right onto your stamps, use multipal colors, spray w/a fine mist spray of water then stamp for a soft watercolor look. Cool hu!!

oh I forgot to mention they come in all 48 colors.

Here's my opinion... I would purchase the watercolor crayons. The colors are fantastic and there are a lot more techniques you can use with them. As someone else mentioned - 48 colors!

I have the pencils, but just don't like them. The greens are yucky and when I use them I always end up with lines. I know this is probably all my fault (bad technique).

The crayons RULE!

Here is a link to an awesome site with directions on lots of techniques using the watercolor crayons.

Thank you so much!

Thank you for all your advise! I'm going to be having loads of fun.....

My vote is the crayons!

Yes, they cost a lot more, but they are WAY more versatile and they match all 48 colors. The pencils are nice, but the colors just don't match the cardstock.
