Do you have bodyguards?
I usually ask my bodyguards to hit it for me when I'm making a card for Catie. They typically do a pretty good job. |
Have you tried putting a block of wood or something in between your hammer and the bootlecaps? Here I am thinking a rectangular block of wood that you strike (think of how carvers strike the end of a chisel with a mallet) to soften the destructive force of metal on metal.

Are you using new caps or used? If they are new, they haven't already been squeeze and will flatten, if they are off a bottle already, have fun trying to flatten that baby! You can buy new caps at most major grocery stores with a wine making section, or any brew-you-own beer place. I paid under $4 for 300 or something like that.

Napolean and I discovered that you need to use a rubbert mallet instead of a hammer.
