Help! Which magazine to subscribe to??

I've had a subscription to "Card Maker" for the past year and my sub ends this month. I'm debating if I should renew or go with a differnt mag? I got one issue of Stamp It! from the store and really like it. Problem is, I tend to drool over the mags, get inspiration, but its rare for me to case any of the cards.

So, which do you like better? Why? Or any other favorites? My budget can barely afford one subscription:???:

Thanks for all your help!

Hmmmm, just one. I would say Paper Crafts. I think I like that a little more than Stamp It! If you are more into scrapbooking, then go with Creating Keepsakes. Those are the two I really look at cover to cover, several times and keep around to CASE. JMHO. :-)

I don't get regular magazine subscriptions. They end up taking up too much space. I like online (free) magazines:

http://scrapbooking.com/ (more than just scrapbooking)

I always ask myself WHY i buy magazines...I mean SCS has so much more inspiration than the mags I buy. I think CK has gone too complicated - the showcase stuff I would NEVER duplicate because it's just too much work. But that' me, I like simple. I like Scrapbook Answers for the fact that they review a lot of stuff, but I can't say I'm inspired by the samples in there as a lot of it is digital. CK has a bunch of digital samples in their mag and that kind of irks me because I'm buying the magazine for paper samples, not digital. Make a digital SB magazine if you want to showcase the digital pages. I don't mind a few to spark interest, but I think they put in more than a few.

My favorite are always the STAMP IT and Paper Craft Magazines. Paper Craft recently put together 3 big books (I've seen them at Hobby Lobby & JoAnn's - maybe Michael's too) - anyways, they put in a bunch of the best into these books. I got them for Christmas. They explain how to make everything and do techniques. I LOVE it. Great deal if you can get them with a coupon. I think they are $15 or $20. So my advice would be to buy those instead of a magazine, you get more detail on how to do stuff in there and it's information you would actually use.

Otherwise buy the fan club membership here...but I think this place has great inspiration for FREE!

i love papercrafts. it give me inspiration for projects as well as layouts, etc.

EllenH 06-17-2006 01:08 PM

I must add that the best spent money will be for the Fan Club - DD gallery. These girls do truly AMAZING work :D

CardFanatic 06-17-2006 04:39 PM

SCS is better than any stamping magazine, but I get Paper Crafts with the school magazine fundraiser every year.

anniesmom 06-17-2006 05:18 PM

I like the following:
Papercrafts
Scrapbooks, etc.
Memory Makers

Once my subs run out I will not be renewing since there is so much FREE inspiration on the web.

dvinson 06-17-2006 05:28 PM

Paper Crafts is my choice hands down. I also subscribe to Creating Keepsakes & Memory Makers. But for stamping I really enjoy PC!

BasketMom 06-17-2006 05:58 PM

I also second the notion of getting the SCS Fan Club first. Most months there are over 125+ cards/ideas that are all so awesome.

If you're already a member, I'd say PaperCrafts with Stamp It after that. The Rubber Stamper magazine has gone down hill, in my opinion.

Any thoughts on Simple Scrapbooks

I am not going to renew my CK sub when it expires. The pages in there are way too complicated and time consuming to CASE. I do like reading about new products though. Does anyone get Simple Scrapbooks? I'd like to know if you think it is a good one to subscribe to. Are the LOs easy enough to CASE?

hedgiemama 06-17-2006 06:09 PM

I do not care for Simple Scrapbooks. I have cancelled and they keep sending. Very routine, and ALL ads...

Palapala 06-18-2006 08:32 AM

Thanks for all the input everyone! I love SCS, but I also enjoy laying in bed and relaxing with a mag in my hands. I'll have to check out Paper Crafts since I don't own any of their mags. Please keep the suggestions coming!

hedgiemama 06-18-2006 09:48 AM

Thanks for the great info. I love to curl up with a book at night and this sounds perfect. I am getting very tired of flipping through ads when what I want are good ideas...

I would ask the question first of WHY do you want one. Is it to see examples or learn techniques or both. If great samples, DD is the BEST way. If techniques, then the technique Junkies newsletter is the best. Just my 2 cents. I canceled my mag subscriptions since I have the above two.

Pretzelgirl8 06-19-2006 01:22 AM

<blush> I'm a magazine junkie. I love the Australian stamping magazines and if you ever see one around grab it! The best one is Stamping & Papercrafts, all the projects are explained step-by-step. As for American magazines I love The Rubber Stamper, Rubber Stamping Madness, Take Ten, Stampers Sampler and Somerset Studio. Take Ten and Stampers Sampler always has heaps of SU cards.

allamericanstampers 06-19-2006 02:51 AM

I have CardMaker and Papercrafts...found special prices through this site! I must say I'm not that thrilled with CardMaker and probably won't renew either. Papercrafts does have some worthwhile patterns though...look at the totes that showed up here!

I'm glad someone talked about Simple Scrapbooks magazine...almost signed up for that when I bought an incredible book, Clean & Simple Scrapbooking by Cathy Zielske. She has a second one out that I'll buy through the SCS Amazon link...I love it and I think it's simple enough that I'll be inspired to scrapbook again!!

Oh, I can't live without my Simple Scrapbooks magazine subscription! I love the simple layouts and clean style, and as someone above mentioned, Cathy Zielski's books are amazing. But it's all about personal style, and for some simple is routine and for others complicated or cutting-edge is busy.

I agree that the web has some awesome inspiration, but I love, love, love having a portable inspiration I can shove in my purse to peruse as I run around with my two boys. For cards, I like PaperCrafts best, and also the Take Ten quarterlies.

Lisa62 06-19-2006 03:29 AM

I also like paper crafts for all of the ideas they have for any kind of theme to cards, invitations, decorating ideas for parties, any kind of little bags or boxes.it's just full of ideas.

debbies 06-19-2006 03:54 AM

I buy Stamp It & subscribe to Papercrafts. The reason??? not so much layouts but color combinations & embellishments!!! I love the charms, gems, & other cute little things. Then I know where to go hunt them down - never would have discovered Queen & Co. without those mags!

greetingsbydebra 06-19-2006 03:56 AM

I like Paper Crafts, too. There's always good stuff in there. You can get a subscription through Amazon for $11.92. That's cheaper than using the sub card in the magazine.

Thanks!! I never would have thought of Amazon. I'll check it out.

PaperCrafts and Take Ten....

twoboysandagirl 06-21-2006 11:46 AM

I got a subscription to Paper Crafts for less than $12.00 which was too cheap to pass up. I also subscribe to Cards. It's a lot more expensive but I love it.

I definitely agree with most of you. There is such awesome talent here on SCS! When my subscriptions run out, I probably won't be renewing them.

Scrapping&Stamping 06-21-2006 02:42 PM

I get Creating Keepsakes, Memory Makers, Simple Scrapbooks, and Scrapbooks Etc. I know, I know, but I love magazines. I agree the CK is going way over the top with their scrapbook layouts. Simple Scrapbooks and Scrapbooks Etc. have been my faves as of late. However, I love to scrapbook and these have very few (if any) card making ideas.

I do subscribe to the DD here to get my card making fix!!!

I, too, love laying in bed with a cardmaking magazine (when the laptop gets too heavy and cumbersome in bed:mrgreen: My sub for Cardmaker is up, too. I'm thinking of dumping it for awhile. I recently discovered Scrap & Stamp, which I really like. Lots of technique info and little tips and tricks.

For cards to CASE or generate your own ideas, I love Take Ten (it's No. 2 to SCS, of course). It's pricey but worth it, since it's all cards. And, a lot are made with SU! stuff.

I also get Rubber Stamper, but I may take a break from that when the sub expires....

Geneal 06-22-2006 10:48 AM

I recommend PaperCrafts too. I do more with it than any magazine I get. I have Creating Keepsakes, but rarely do I actually make something from it. I case the cards from PaperCrafts all the time. I can always figure a way to use my stamps even if the card shown hasn't been stamped. It is well worth the money, and I also think joining the SCS Fan Club is a great idea. Good ideas and it supports the site!

junebug50 06-22-2006 12:30 PM

I agree with pretzelgirl 8 !!!!!

Melanwee1 06-22-2006 12:51 PM

Need another vote for Papercrafts & Stamp It! ? hee hee I also subscribe to the DD, which is AMAZING!

Also, not to hijack, but I've heard so much talk about "Take Ten"....where do you find it? Anyone care to send along some info on this? Thanks!

Take Ten

Take Ten is published by Stampington and Co. It is full of cards that can be made in 10 minutes or less. I love it! I also enjoy Stampers Sampler which is another of the Stampington pubs. I subscribe to CardMaker, PaperCrafts, and Rubber Stamper. I think Take Ten and Stampers Sampler are my favorites with PaperCrafts coming in a close second. I am new to these boards but am getting addicted very quickly!!

Happy Stampin',
Joanne
