Help Help need infomation

I have just held a workshop and a lady asked me if stampin up markers were toxic as she is wanting to use them in cake making. She is wanting to use them on the icing decorating the flowers and wedding figures. Since some people eat these she wants to know if its safe.

hope someone out there knows.
thanks

I believe that she should purchase special markers that are specially made with food coloring... not with ink. I used to have a link to a place called Sweet Stuff or maybe Sweet Stamping. Can't find it right now.

She should definitely use a product made by a cake decorating company! I would think that if she is an experienced cake maker, she would KNOW this! I think she would really be taking a chance if she did not use products designed for cake decorating.

Tell her to look here:

a. http://www.candylandcrafts.com/decor...oppe.htm?OVRAW

b. http://www.wilton.com/

c. http://www.createacakeshop.com/Merch...ategory_Code=C

d. http://www.sugarcraft.com/

All she has to do is type "cake deorating supplies" into a search engine and she will find lots of companies.

Sorry to sound "mean" or "nasty" but, WHATEVER is she thinking? If she really knew what she was doing, she would automatically search in the cake decorating catalogs!
I have used SU! products for YEARS but I would NEVER even think of using them in my cake decorating! And I have decorated cakes for years, too!

those markers are not for food. they make specific food markers. michaels has them.

I was thinking, "Lord, please help me to NOT eat anything made by this lady." Wow! No, stamp markers are not edible. Will it kill ya? Probably not, but you still shouldn't eat them.

I have seen blogs where people DID USE SU markers and reinkers for coloring food. I personally would NOT eat this stuff. Wilton makes very nice markers that are edible and coloring pastes/liquid coloring for food.

I just can not even IMAGINE why she thought these SU! markers would be OK to use! And, in my opinion, she knows almost ZERO about the cake decorating business! I know I would not eat anything made by her.
Even as a beginner, it never crossed my mind to use my craft items for decorating cakes! I automatically went to my Wilton books and my search engine to find other cake decorating stores and products.

Just when I thought I had heard everything!

There is a difference between "non-toxic" and "food safe" I would think. :)
Non-toxic won't kill you, but food safe is made to be eaten!
I have used the food safe markers quite often. They are as easy to use as SU! markers. I had the kids color christmas cookies one year even...

Thank you ladies,
This is what I thought and I was thinking the same thing. If she wanted to use these then what else have you been using. I said I thought it wouldnt be safe but just to make sure I would find out. So thank you again now I can go back and give her postive advice on what she can use.
But it does make you think the next time I'm at a wedding not knowing what was used to decorate the cake, "please one slice without decoration"
thank you
megan
