Default What to charge at a garage sale

Ok, I have finally made up my mind that I am done with stamping - at least for now anyway. I want to get rid of most of my SU sets. I already have the ad in the paper to start on Thursday. My question is - How much to charge at a garage sale? I went on ebay and there is a huge variety of price's for the same set. If you can help I would appreciate it.

This is just a handful of the one's I want to get rid of. Can someone help me with the price's please? TIA!!

It's been years but I once went to a garage sale where the sets were $5 each and I bought everything she had. It was a great find/deal!

You could price them similar to what folks price them for here (in the BST forum) and put up a sign that says "Make an offer!" or be willing to deal.

Hope that helps.

Default around here (WI) typically you see them for half price or less

you shouldn't have any trouble.

I really think you should list these in the BST (Buy/Sell/Trade) forum here. You'll get much better prices than at a yard sale. If you really want to do the yardsale thing though, go to the BST forum here:
Forums at Splitcoaststampers
and at least check on current pricings then insist on that price. Don't be too hasty though, bc you'll never be able to go back and rebuy them at that!

i agree you should try to sell here rather than the garage sale. no matter what price you list them at people will inevitably talk you down -- the nature of garage sales, i think! here you can set a fair price and actually get it! good luck!

You can always set them a few dollars higher than what you would be willing to take too, as many people are eager to barter at garage sales.

Off topic, but I went to one last year and found two SU stamp pads for 25 CENTS EACH! I couldn't believe it!

I would price them by looking at "completed sales" on eBay and then pick the average and listing them in our BST forum, either before or after your sale depending on the timing. But do read our BST guidelines first, as some of the sets you had listed can only be traded at this time. THe demos in my area have a big garage sale each year and do very well. Our ad says "huge stamping and scrapbooking sale" and that pulls in a lot of people. Good luck!

at a basic yardsale you aren't going to get what you would get by using BST here or on E-bay - unless you have someone coming through who knows what type of stamps they are and the value...

I usually use the completed listings on E-bay as a gauge as to price my retired sets...

I sold a bunch of my sets at a yard sale last summer and I priced them at abou 50% or more off retail depending on the set. I showed the list price on the tag and then the sale price. I sold almost all of the sets I had within the first hour of the yard sale.

I have bought quite a few SU sets at garage sales and usually pay about $4. The range in pricing has been $2 to $6, I would say.

I think you will get better prices here or a similar site than at a garage sale. Unless you have a large number of smart stampers in your area that know what they are worth and are willing to pay more than basic garage sale prices.

I don't know what things are like where you are, but around here at a yard sale or flea market most folks want everything for $2 or less -- so frustrating. Chalk up another vote for unloading your stamps here on SCS (retired only, of course) or on eBay.
