Default Coloring House Mouse Question

I just got my first House Mouse stamp. It is more subtle than the simple line drawing stamps (Hedgies and Fluffles) I have used before. What is your favorite way to color them?

Water color the stamped image?
Apply colored markers on the stamp, and then stamp on the paper?

Chris

I use chalks a lot. or pulling the ink from the pad directly with a blender pen.

I always use Prismacolor pencils and gamsol. Here is a link to the House-Mouse cards I have done so you can get a feel for what that looks like!

Mostly Prismacolor pencils with OMS for me, or occasional watercoloring. I have used chalk pencils before too, which is a really sweet, soft effect.

Here's a gallery of mine, just for fun........ http://mamadinis.com/hm.htm

Just my suggestions:

I would recommend using only a black ink for the image, not applying marker to the rubber stamp itself. Try chalks or pastels, colored pencils, or blender pen with ink from the lid of your ink pads.

The House Mouse site has coloring tips on this page:
http://www.house-mouse.com/php/howtocolor.php

Did you know that all the mice have their own personalities and are colored differently? How cute is that idea? The "Meet the Mice" page is: http://www.house-mouse.com/php/amanda.php

Ellen Jareckie, the creator of this line, has done such a wonderful job with it. So clever.

I have had House Mouse stamps for more than a decade and never realized that they were to be coloured differently! That IS cute!!!!

My favourite way to colour these mice (actually, to colour anything at all) is with watercolours.

I printed this guide years ago and still use it! I always use watercolor pencils because I like the subltly of them. And I've discovered that stamping the image with a fine-line black pigment ink (Versafine Onyx) and then applying detail black embossing powder and heat setting it really makes for a fabulous result. After watercoloring the image (or chalking), gently rub the surface with a kleenex and it will remove the color that has adhered to the black lines of the embossed image - it looks fabulous!

Enjoy learning to color the mousies - they DO have their own personalities. ;)

for coloring I use Prisma Pencils and baby oil. The gamasol gives me a headache and makes me dizzy. Baby oil has the same effect, has a good smell (for me) and most people probably already have it in their home.

I use Prisma color pencils, and NO gamsol. I just use the pencils and color darker where I want shading. Haven't gotten into the 2-step process yet.

Dickblick.com says this about the Scholar art pencils :

Specially formulated for students and aspiring artists, Prismacolor scholar quality art pencils have a smooth, creamy texture and strong thick cores. The round wooden pencils are packaged unsharpened. These pencils are recommended by professional artists and art educators for their unmatched blendability and richly pigmented color. Colors can be blended to open up brilliant new possibilities for visual learning and creative expression. Scholar is a quality line of student pencils from the makers of Prismacolor Colored Pencils, the best selling artist colored pencil.

All that said.............I don't know how they differ from the Premier pencils...but they are cheaper! They just don't have the range of color. I googled them and they actually carry them at Oriental Trading Co. for a decent price.
