Default Headline Alpha vs. Making Memories Foam Alphas

Well I thought I was saving money by purchasing the foam alpha by making Memories but I am defenitely think that was a mistake now.

I am having an extremely hard time lining the letters up, even using the stampamajig.

If anyone has any tips in using these until I can purchase the SU version please please let me know.

I am trying to make the composition books for Christmas and don't know what to do know

thanks
Melissa

How about stamping the letters and cutting them out, then glueing them where you need them. Good Luck!

I have both and even though it KILLED me to pay the big bucks for the SU one it is sooooo worth it! The foam slurps up way too much ink & I feel like I'm "wasting" it. Not to mention what a pain in the heinie the foam is to clean - but I digress . . .

Back to your question: Don't line the letters up! It's an exercise in futility! Deliberately make them "cattywompus" and it looks adorable. Don't over-do it but try shifting the angle ever so slightly each time to the left then right. OR - if you don't have the space for that try shifting them up or down a smidge and see how you like that. The MM foam has that shabby look to it so play with them & have fun.

. . .and get Headline as soon as you can - it's soooooo much easier! HTH!

I never thought about cutting them out. thanks for the great ideas.

i will also try to do the cattywompus look although it might be hard for me. i am kind of obsessive when it comes to being symmetrical and straight.

thank you both

I am really particular about my letters lining up also. I might buy this set by Technique Tuesday when it comes out.

They are the clear polymer stamps so I'll need to use acrylic blocks but at least I'll be able to get them really straight.

I use my SU! wheel guide to line up my alphabets. Not sure how it would work with my MM alphabets though. Otherwise if I can't get line it up straight, I say forget it and go for the intentionally staggered look

I turned my MM alphas into unmounted stamps. I cut them out and put aileen's tacky glue on the back and use a big acrylic block to stamp them. I haven't had a problem at all. I tried removing the white foam from the black foam and mounting them on ez mount. It was a lot harder to get the white foam off than cutting them out, but both are doable. On the acrylic block they line up just how I want them - straight or crooked. I will agree that they are harder to clean, but they were 75% less than headline alphabet.

hth.

I'll admit I asked DH for a MM foam alphabet for my birthday because I like the font I got, and it was only $5! I'm going to be orderering the letterpress alphabet durring SAB, but I just couldn't wait! yeah mostly it was because I have littler patience. I usually just cut the stamped letters out though when I want to line them up just right. have fun! I love all alphabets!
