I'm trying to make a baby card for a friend and I'm stuck!!! I have the basic concept of what I want, but it's just not 'quite right'. Nothing is glued down, so I can change anything.....what does it need?
I like your elements, the embossing shows up well, that's usually hard to see in a photo. Perhaps try turning the card with the fold at the top and move the elements around, turn the giraffe 90 degrees to the stripes. I like your idea to play with the layout this way, having the elements movable before you glue them, I will try that out. Maybe do faux stitching around inside edges of the letter blocks to frame them; a white pen would look subtle if you have one. Post what you play with so we can see this develop.

Oh, man...I love giraffes so I think it's perfect just having that on there!! ;)
I agree about maybe the eyelets on the blue strip? I feel funny advising you on design, though!! You're my idol!!!!

You might try rotating the card so it is a landscape layout, as opposed to vertical, and laying the letters across the area above where the patterned paper would be?
align the giraffe image to the lower left or right, along the patterned paper and see if this is visually more appealing to you. It may not be!
But, you can then add a mebbe a yellow button to the right, with blue gingham threaded through it.
This will balance out the design and give the eye a triangle of images to float around the card and it's more pleasing to the eye to have a trio, as opposed to 2 competing focals side by side.
Does this make sense? I'm not an art major, I just have read stuff like this here and there about achieving visual balance so I find it helps me when I'm a little stumped on layout.
Another thing you might try, is either omitting the letters altogether, keeping the landscape layout, keeping the giraffe towards the lower left over the patterned paper, but running a length of yellow ribbon, underneath this piece and around, the card front, knotting it to the right.
OR, eliminate the giraffe altogether ( ), again stick with the landscape layout, letters aligned above the pattern paper, and running the yellow ribbon along the center of the patterned paper and knotting to the right, as in the aforementioned paragraph.
But, then again, none of the above may work.

I agree the two sides of the card are competing with each other. I would lose the baby and make it landscape. I would put the giraffe in the left center and tie a ribbon around with a bow by the giraffe. I think a stamped greeting would then look nice in the lower right corner.
Just my opinion though...I'm sure your friend will love it!!!!
I think some extra embellishments will finish it off nicely....small blue ribbon on the left (you know around the card) and a couple eyelets or buttons ....kinda like juliehhr's idea of turning it too......

WOW!! What great ideas you all have! I tried turning the card sideways and I think it does look better that way. I'll post it tomorrow when I can see straight.......*yawn*
Thank you SO MUCH for your help--and thanks Kathryn for the compliment!
Ok, here are 3 revisions.......let me know what you think. Everything is still loose, so I can change it around. Oh, and I would put thread through the buttons if I choose that...they look naked right now
I agree, it looks better in this direction. I like the buttons, but not on either side. I would put them together and move the giraffe to the left with the buttons to the right. Whichever you choose, it's a great card!
Ok, I went ahead and the middle one (with the bow). I also added canvas in VersaMark to the background--it's very subtle, but it adds a nice texture. I think I'm going to thread one of the little white buttons and add it to the middle of the bow. I'll post it in my gallery when it's complete. Thanks for all the guidence
