Default having trouble with emboss resist

Hi,
I have been trying to do the emboss resist technique, but am having some difficulties. I notice that everyone's "white stamped image" is perfect...no white specks of crystal anywhere.

I shake the cardstock to get rid of any stray or extra crystals off and then begin to heat the stamped area. I always seem to get some crystals flying off to another part of the cardstock (and of course, they then show up through the inking part). I watch for them and remove them as best I can, but still seem to get left with some. (Which are usually quite stuck to the cardstock, making removal difficult).

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Do you have an Embossing Buddy? It's a little "pillow" looking thing which you rub over the paper to take away any static or whatever prior to stamping your image. I hear you can use a dryer sheet too. I find some papers emboss much better than others. (I personally like clear embossing powder the most - I use craft pads for embossing if I want color, black or white.) I also cut & paste this from another person's post with the same issue:

"Ok, number of things. First do you handle your work a lot or do you have sweaty palms, or do you eat whilst you craft? All of these things will cause the ep to stick to the greasy fingerprints. So if this is the case handle your card by the edges.
Secondly, do you hold your card up and sprinkle the ep over? This gives it more of a chance to spread. Try leaving your card flat and then pouring embossing powder as much just over the image as you can and then dump excess off onto excess paper. It tends to stick less.
Also, black and metallic powders do tend to stray, have you tried colored craft ink and clear powder? Then you won't see any stray.
Finally, yes an embossing buddy does make a big difference. I consider it to be essential equipment. I use it all the time and it comes in handy for lots of techniques.
HTH."

As she said, hope that helps! - Gay Howe

You can also use a Swiffer cloth to wipe away any excess BEFORE embossing. Don't wipe it over the image though.

I usually use "messy" stamp sets, like Paint Prints, for things like this, so I don't have that same problem: http://seitlerstamps.blogspot.com/20...le-resist

yep...the EB is my best friend when it comes to any type of embossing...it really makes sure that nothing sticks where I don't want it to stick...

I started stamping before the embossing buddy. I have always used a fabric softner sheet...like Bounce. They work great. Also I always make sure my heat gun is heated totally before I aim it at the paper. It doesn't blow the embossing powder around that way.

The embossing buddy is great. You can also buy cheaper static remover clothes that actually work just as good as the swiffer ones at the Doller Store.
