Have you sent a card to the troops?

Well if you have pat yourself on the back. To date we have sent over 7845 cards!!!!!! The first shipment went out mid July so we are now officially six months deep!!!! You all are wonderful and I am still amazed at how generous you all are. "To give money is a gift, to give something you made, is a gift of yourself."
To all of you who are new and have not known about our cards for the troops drive please click the link below my sig line on any of the 4000+ posts and see if it is something you would be interested in! Who wouldn't want to support our awesome armed forces??? LOL

Also a side note, general cards are best, as in not totally specific Valentines Day or St Paddys day or Mothers day, as I really don't know how long it takes us to get the cards there and back... I just received 1220 cards from ONE PERSON who did it all so that the troops could have Valentines Day cards, she told me she just felt it was something she needed to do!!! So if you feel there is a specific type of card exclusive to a holiday please let me know and I will tell you when the cutoff date is going to be...I try right now to HAVE POSSESSION of the specific cards four weeks prior to the holiday.... so if you are thinking Mothers Day I would have to have the cards by beginning of April... that way I can have them all done and they can go out in time... :)
Also, I know it takes some extra time but I think if you could write in some of the cards that would be awesome, our troops need to know we love them and support them...it really does make a difference.
I have one woman who faithfully sends me cards that are written in to the troops...she has heard from quite a few who have taken the time to write back and tell her what it meant to them! It is lovely to see that we can make a difference doing something we love! Thank you for all of your support of our efforts!!! You really are all amazing! :D
And just so you all know, the Post Office now has flat rate boxes that can hold 220 card or more!!! And it is just 7.70 to send no matter how heavy it is... :)

HI Keri. Thanks for your update. I am so looking forward to our "community stamp for the troops" project this Sunday. I have a bunch of giddy women who can't wait to sit down and stamp for this cause! Speaking of shipping... I was also concerned about YOUR shipping expenses and wanted to be sure to help cover these when we send our cards. How can we help in that way...how much do you need?! Just say the word! Thanks, again, for your wonderful effort!

The beauty of all this is that I do not have to pay to ship them once they arrive here. I package them up and then ship them on the C-17 Cargo Planes straight from the airbase here!!! :) It really is wonderful!! :D But thanks for asking.
And for those of you who have sent stamps to me to help and I didn't return them to you, I have sent them to some of the people who are constantly sending me cards and can't afford too much more postage...I figured it would be better to get more cards here to me since they are just waiting for the bank deposits... :)

Thanks for all YOU do to make this happen. Our hostess club Friday night made a bunch of cards up and we enjoyed every second. You'll get them from our demo soon! Many, many thanks to you.

I plan on doing that this weekend. I have already made a few but I would like to send well my goal this weekend is 200. I have to do this slowly b/c my 2 year old likes to color on my cards when I get up and go to the kitchen. I am going tomorrow to my son's school to have a conference with the principal to make care packages to the troops. I am also going to suggest that all the kid's make cards.

I thought I would pass along that my husband recieved a stamped card from somebody. I wonder if it was ya'll. (I'm new here.) I was so excited when he wrote and said that someone had sent him stamped cards!! Thanks for organizing this special program. It means so much to our guys when they receive handwritten and handmade cards. Thanks for your support!

e waterous 01-20-2005 12:51 PM

Cards for the troops

I've been sending you cards since I first saw your request. And on Monday I am having a "stamping for the troops" workshop with my group of friends. They are all very excited to do this - for most of them it will be the first time they have stamped. I bet at least 2 get addicted to it!

stampin1 01-23-2005 05:26 PM

still ongoing?

I just want to check and make sure that this card-sending operation will be ongoing for awhile before I start making cards. Is there an ending date? Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm a newbie.

Thanks,
Andi

Sereikastamper 01-23-2005 05:31 PM

HI andi, it will go through June.... I am trying to find someone here who would be willing to take it over for me at that point...but atleast until June! :)

Sereikastamper 01-23-2005 05:32 PM

Oh I should tell you that in June we are going to be moving for a year and so I will not have easy access like I do here... so I am trying to see what I can do to keep it up and going!

A Big Thank You!!

I just want to thank each and every person that has been a part of this project. As the wife of a currently deployed spouses I know how hard it can be for them w/o their families. I'm sure that all of our troops appreciate all of the hard work everyone has done!

Thank You!

Christie

Goodie bags for troops

Hi all,

Wasn't sure if this was the best place to post this, but here goes anyway.

I send goodie bags (really 2-4-6-8 boxes) to my brother's unit serving in Iraq. The guys really love them!

Anyway, I'm getting ready to do my Valentine's ones, but I can't come up with a good saying to put on them. These will again be 2-4-6-8 boxes, using black and red cardstock. The box will be black, with red heart embellishments and thin red cardstock strips to close them. Inside will be Valentine peanut M&Ms and Sweet-tart hearts (great deal at Walmart $1 a bag, or as they put it 2/$2).

Again, any ideas on a saying I can put on the outside of them, I would even consider putting something written on the inside.

TIA for your suggestions,

Sereikastamper 01-25-2005 02:52 PM

How about something cute like,
"I just wanted to thank you for being willing to serve far from home. Here is a little sweet something in case you are missing your Sweetie."

Soldiers in Iraq

My employer has been collecting items to send to Iraq. My cousin who were going to send it to is going to be coming home. Does anyone have any addresses for troops in Iraq that we can send these items? More than one address would be great as we do have lots of stuff.

Thanks

Wendy

Sereikastamper 01-28-2005 11:34 AM

The sharing of personal addresses over the web is not a good idea unless you have the permission of the person themselves...

However that being said, you can do a search over the internet for those projects that are collecting items to send to the troops...

And we are always sending cards here!! LOL

wdavis 01-28-2005 11:42 AM

Thanks So much- Great Idea!!!

Cards For Our Troops

Sounds like you are really up and going with a GREAT idea. Hope you can find someone to keep up your good work. I will get busy and see what I can make and send. I will also let my Childcare Preschoolers make some cards. I have several of the cute kid style stamp sets that they can color and 1 of my 4 year olds is already writing(if I spell for her) so she can do that part with the others dictating. I can work it into my lesson plans.

stampin_sher 02-18-2005 04:04 AM

The girls and I made 400 valentines to send to troops from our local Christian radio station. Now that I am done with that I will look at your thread to see what to do. Thanks for coordinating it.

crafty_girl 03-10-2005 12:34 PM

Keri,

What an incredible thing you're doing for us and the troops! Please let me know if/how I can help you in any way (in addition to making cards).
