Default Has anyone ever been asked to sell their cards?[

I am a new SU! demonstrator and I have recently been asked if I would sell some of my cards. Does anyone else do this? How much do you charge? Any ideas about packaging?

Default selling cards

I sell mine $2.00 each or 6 for $10.00 - I've been told by a few people that I need to raise my prices as alot of my cards are full of detail. They do sell and people don't have a problem with my prices. I've also sold a quite a few craft shows.

I sell mine for $3.00 at my husbands office. The people who like handmade cards have no problem with the price.

Even at the grocery store you're paying $3 a card! I'd say don't go lower than that for a handmade one. Unless you're selling a packet of 10 or 12, then I'd give them a break on that price.

Default Card price vs. size

Hi! I am another lurker {grin} who loves this site. My question goes along with the pricing of cards. I was wondering what the card size is of the selling prices posted above. Is the the "typical" 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" or do people prefer to purchase slightly larger cards. Thanks in advance, Gina

For those of you who are charging $3/card, are they pretty elaborate? Or are they basic? Do you do several of the same card?

Also, do you do coordinating envelopes? How do you package them if they are in a set?

I have so many questions! Thanks for your input y'all!

Default Our SU Stationery Portfolios

Have you ever used the stationery portfolios when you package cards? I have begun to sell packages of similar themed cards (i.e., Terrific Tulips, or Bamboo II background paired with Kanji, or even Oriental Paintings alone - as listed on my website at http://community.webshots.com/user/neighbor_nancy). Please note - my website has been reviewed (at my request) and approved by Demonstrator Services. I do not sell anything from my website, nor do I even have my email or full name listed, for security reasons. Those of us who have been stalked are more careful than others might be!

I sell for $3 per card and $12-15 for a portfolio full of 4 cards. Most have no message/saying stamped, as in my experience the best selling are "all purpose cards."

Heat embossed images, motion and exploding cards, accordian books seem to sell well as gifts. I include SU's high quality envelopes or, in some cases, the clear envies. I have gotten the most $ ($5 and up) for cards using fiber (regretably not SU, but imported from France and Italy from relatives) or skeleton leaves - something unique.

I am such a happier stamper/demo now that I'm selling my work. I get my discount as a hobby demo and now focus on the creative side of card making rather than workshops. I'm making more money this way and don't have to leave home! I have no store or set location (which would be in violation of our SU demo agreement) - friends tell friends and they ask me to make something for them.

I am always sure to use our angel stamp. I keep records to prove my expenses and sales for tax purposes. My only problem, still being new at this, is how to calculate the state sales tax and report it. Anyone know anything about getting a tax ID and record keeping regarding really really really small businesses??

I hope this helps!

All my best,

Neighbor_Nancy

I sell my cards for $1.75 if they are simple and only have 1-3 layers. If there are any embelishments (eyelets, ribbon, cutouts, etc) I charge between $2-2.50.

Default Selling cards

Ladies! I think you are selling yourselves short! I have been selling my cards for $5.00 each and people are paying it without batting an eye. Most of my designs are not time consuming, but fun or elegant, and a lot nicer than a $3.95 Hallmark card.

Go for it!

I sold some simple Father's Day cards the other day for $2.50 each - I used the new serigraph technique and made the "Happy Father's Day" look like a tag and added just a little fiber on the tag. It was so simple and I used only three sheets of paper and about 15" of fiber. I have decided that I too will probably depend on selling my cards more than holding workshops to earn money (which in turn I will buy more stamps, of course....)

Wow! I had no idea people would pay $5. However, I live in a very small town and I really don't think they will pay that. But I do think they will pay $2 or $3. Do you guys sell them in shops? I thought of making some to sell to some of the high end gift shops near by...

I have a friend who sells quite a few cards. She sells basic cards for 3.50 and more detailed cards for 5.00. A local funeral home buys 100 at a time to send on the one year anniversary to families. They don't even have layers!! She is a teacher and around holidays she takes orders from other teachers. Her town is very small...I think less than 6 thousand. I agree, you guys should raise your prices! Your time is worth something.

Default Selling caution

If people have asked you to sell, then go for it. A word of caution, however. Read your demo manual about our Angel Policy. You cannot sell in a shop unless it is strictly seasonal. Can't sell in any fixed retail location, or on the internet, ... . And your cards must have one of the copyright stamps on it.

Default No fixed location

I do not sell from a fixed location, and perhaps wasn't clear. I have no shop. They ask me for cards, I bring some into my workplace for them. That's it.

I am familiar with the no fixed location aspect of our contract, but some may not be, so it is good to bring up. Thanks.

Default selling cards

I sell my cards at work. I am a stamp up demonstrator and I would bring them in to work to show my friends. Then everyone said why don't you sell them. So I sell them for $2.00 each. Its great. The money I make I put aside to buy new stamps. I have a couple of photo boxes that I decorated the outside of the boxes and have dividers in the inside for every occasion.

If you are not a demo can you sell your cards in a "fixed" location? (provided you have the angel stamp?)

TIA!

My sister emailed SU! about this and they said no. They told her she can't even sell them online on a web site or on Ebay. Only at temporary places.

i recently started selling my cards, also at my friends request. i sell them for 2.50 or 5 for 10. no one has told me that is too high, in fact i have some who say it is too INexpensive. i was trying to figure out a good way to package them and include envelopes also, and have been happy to discover the clear envies. they are perfect! keeps them clean, and professional looking. then they can seal it and give it away. Or mail it.
i went to my local postoffice and they assured me to mail them is ok.
no extra postage. so i mailed one to myself and i use to show people they can go thru the mail. just write with a permanent marker on the side of the envelope where the back of the card is showing thru. does that make sense?
I felt really weird selling them at first, but now its twice the fun- i get to make the cards then buy new stamps and cs with my profit!
good luck.

Thank you all for the information. I have been stamping for about 2 years and a friend asked me about selling cards in her shop. It is in a tourist town and only open during the summer(seasonal). I have also been wondering about pricing, so all of your answers have helped. Thanks again.

Re: Mailing in clear envelopes....

I address the back of my card and then put it in the clear envelope. That works pretty good also.

Re: selling at fixed location....

In other words, if I make a bunch of Christmas cards, I can sell them at florist shops, etc. at Christmas?????

Just want to make sure I am interpreting this correctly???

Thanks.
