To all of you who are a veteran, or have a veteran in your family:
Thank you for your service!
My husband is a Vietnam vet. I was too young when he came home to really understand, but he tells me stories about how vets were treated back then, and it isn't pretty. (We didn't meet until 10 years after that.)
We have a plate that I put out for birthdays in the family. It says "Today is your special day". So, I set that out for him before I went to work this morning. Now, our22 year old son called to see if he could take his Dad out for a drink to say thank you.
So, thank you to all of your favorite veterans. Today is their special day!
I would like to say Happy Remembrance Day to all our Canadian Veterans as well. After having been to some of the first and second world war battle grounds and war cemeteries in France, this day has come to mean so much more to me. Those who fought on our behalf (and those who fight now on our behalf) will always be heros to me.
Thank you and may we never forget the sacrifice that you have made for our freedom.
Thanks, Holly, for starting this thread. My husband retired from the Air Force two years ago. It never ceases to amaze me that he served that long and would go back on active duty if he could.
Lynne, I love your putting out the special day plate for your husband, and it sure sounds like you two raised a fine young man. It brings a tear to my eye to think of that show of respect.
My entire family (well, the men anyway) have all served. My dad was in Guam in WWII. He has taught me over the years the sacrifice all service men and women make every day of their lives. Even afterward, some have memories that are tough to live with. I thank God every single day I am fortunate enough to be an American and have such great men and women willing to defend me. It is a very humbling thing indeed.

My father is a Vietnam Vet and I remember his experiences returning. My husband is active duty, my brother is in the Reserves and I am a veteran. Our experiences are so much better than my father's experiences. I am so encouraged that my fellow countrymen (and women) have learned from that time and now routinely express their appreciation for our veterans. Veterans often feel awkward and don't know how to respond, but please don't let that discourage you from thanking them. Having seen first-hand the Vietnam Vet's experiences and now current Vets experiences, it means the world to me to that we all express our appreciation. Thank you for caring for our Vets!

Thanks for the reminder that those with whom our vets have so often served are also being remembered with special pride and gratitude at this time. We, too, are grateful for allies such as they.
