guy cards
Not sure if this is the right thread for this but.... I am always in need of simple guy (both young men and adults) cards and I never have any on hand. I have boxes full of feminine stuff but none that will work for guys. I would love to see links to your favorite guy cards so that I can have a bunch of ideas on hand when I need them. Anyone game?

Most of my cardmaking is geared toward men/boys - I just have more of them in my life. Most are on my blog which is linked in my signature. HTH.
My "guys" seem to like cards that relate to them or have movement. |
Here are a few guy cards I've made over time.

We have a gallery for masculine (not a fixed gallery, it's keyword driven, so cards only show in it if people use masculine in their keywords :D) - masculine - Homemade Cards, Rubber Stamp Art, & Paper Crafts - Splitcoaststampers.com.
Here are some of my favourites ; In the Wild The acrylic smash is actually quite easy. SC331 Light and Sea CAS Masculine Retiform MMTPT173 Ride Safe, Snoop I like to use seaside themes, get a lot of use from In the Wild, and another thing I like for guys is embossed metal. Either old cans cut down, or you can just wrap some aluminium foil around a piece of thin cardstock cut to size and emboss it. Colour it up a bit with some alcohol inks or Copics for even more impact. |

This is just what I was looking for thanks everyone!

Great cards !

Don't know if its the sort of thing you are into, but I find Stampscapes scenic stamps are great for mens cards.

here is the one I gave my hubby for his birthday this last Saturday:
Hubby birthday card by sprtchick - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers He loved it and it was so easy. Blessings |
I usually check the gallery for stamp sets I have and print off inspiration from there. It has tons of clever cards, done by great artist with lots of experience.

Check out the Bombshell Stamps gallery here at Splitcoast since Bombshell has vintage pin-up, tattoo, and car/motorcycle stamps that appeal to the men in our lives. Plus they're big fun to color.
|
LOVE these examples! I like to use either fishing/wildlife..aquatic..or trees. Oh and lighthouses. I have a thing for turtles though so I just ordered a turtle set and can't wait to use those for some cards this comming year.
I find that the men and boys around here like this kinda plain and simple too LOL..you get too much going on and they seem to be confused LOL |
About half of my cards are in the Clean & Simple design category. These really lend themselves to masculine design. Here are some recent designs :

Great thread - we all need inspiration for masculine cards and so fun to check out everyone's samples. I have ALOT of men/boys in my extended family and often use dog stamps - here are a couple of examples but I have alot more in my gallery:

Wildlife, trees, leaves, dogs, nautical. I try to tailor mine to the person. My son likes Asian so I do that for him. I've even done some nudes (artsie ones) for my brothers. There are some generic ones I've done, I took different types of swirl stamps and enbossed them in different metalic colors on blacklike gold, silver, bronze.

I find 'guy' cards so hard to do. I angst over each and every one of them. Feminine cards..no problem. Slip, slap and add a flower..done! Here are a couple of guy cards that I thought turned out okay.

I'm always looking for more masculine card ideas, as well.
Great topic. Here's one that I came up with using Stampin Up's digital download Sail Away. Sail Away Father's Day Card by juliesprincess - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers |
I usually find that a 'clean and simple' card does the trick for a 'guy card'. Here are some that I have made.

Ladies, I'm blown away by the talent on this thread! I need to step up my game! Wish me luck, next card I have due out is my BIL's birthday!
|
Barbara Jay - just have to say your nautical cards and Harley card are awesome!
|
Thank you all for the inspiration. I so struggle with masculine cards. I favorited almost all of them. Just made a card for my architect/artist son which is hard because he has that artistic eye though he really appreciates my cards. Ended up with a colorful butterfly that I colored with Copics so that my 16 month old grandaughter could enjoy it also. I now have lots of ideas for my next masculine card.

Cards for guys
I have a card for the lovely males in our lives, using SU products mainly. I have posted it to my blog which you can find here
HuggiesCrafts Happy Spot I posted it on 22 Dec 2011 and it's called One for the Men. I am really pleased with the way this card turned out. Happy Crafting, Beth (HuggiesCrafts)

Samswindle is hosting a men's cards swap if you want to take a stab at it and get some ideas for cards back. I posted my two card submissions to my gallery. I created a blank card with a piece of balsa wood and the dragonfly from wonderful wings. My second card is a little more whimsical with candles cut from textured paper. That one could be customized to anyone. I like having lots of guy cards on hands as my brother is my only sibling and he has 3 boys (heaven help my SIL!)

any ideas for masculine cards that are single layers and no embellishments? Need some ideas for a card ministry for men in prison, but they can not have layers or things glued on or even embossing unless it is the dry embossing plates.

Dolly, I am in the same boat as far as those restrictions go.
I save free digital stamp images and print them on the front of cards through my printer along with a sentiment, then color them with prismacolor pencils. They have been well received. I get my free images from this site which has links for images and sentiments. Free Digital Stamps I make mine either encouraging or sassy with the sayings, or with a joke or pun. Laughing is good for the soul as much as the encouragement! For instance, a stamp of a dog with the saying 'Anytime you think you have influence, try ordering around someone elses's dog!" I also use a lot of scoring on the cards. Hope this helps! |

I too have a hard time with man cards... it just seems so easy to make a girly card and then when I need a guy card my mind goes blank. I do have a few I have made... I am going to try to post them on here for you... I hope I can figure out how to do it.
