Default Christmas Chatter

Being that in exactly two months from today, I will be sitting down to turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing with a brightly-lit tree glimmering in the background, I though that it would be fun to start some Christmas 'chatter'!!!! Are you hand-crafting any gifts? What card designs have you been able to come up with? (please share pics if possible!!!) Do you have any tried-and-true Christmas products? (stamps, paper, punches, etc) I'd love to hear about anything and everything CHRISTMAS!!!

I guess I'll start with sharing a card - my mom drafted me to make hers, and this is what I came up with. They're in the final steps, and I hope to finish them tonight

It's the most wonderful time of the year!! ;)

Christmas is my all time favorite holiday, so I start gearing up early. And I have a huge family - 5 grown kids and spouses, 17 grandchildren, and 4 great-grands.

I try to hand make lots of things when I can. I tell the older grandkids, "This is the price you pay for being my grandchild. Your grandmother is going to make things for you that you may or may not like, but you're getting them anyway, lol." Kind of kidding - for the most part my whole family loves receiving handmade cards and other handmade stuff.

I'm making a bunch of the darling decorated tissue box covers that are in the Tutorial section, Stampin Up! Gallery: Tissue Box Cover by stampgirl2004 - Page 1 - Cards & More - Splitcoaststampers. They are really cute and come together pretty quickly. I think all of the grown "girls" with homes of their own will be getting one.

I also make altered comp. books for all the gals. They look forward to getting them every Christmas. Notecard sets are always a hit with my DIL's and granddaughters, too.

I found some really nice mugs at Mike's in the Dollar bins. They are kind of vintage looking, with neat images and sayings. Example, one has an old typewriter and says "Write your own story." I got 6 of them and will decorate cocoa packets to go in them for a nice little extra gift.

Those sound so cute! I'll have to check out our Mikes to see if they have them.

I love Christmas! This year will be very different as my husband will be deployed at sea and miss it. We will still do everything as usual: tree, gifts, church, dinner, but we will miss him. I'm sending him with hundreds of Christmas cards to hand out to lonely sailors.
(Will post photos of the cards soon, I promise!)

I'm doing journal jars for my sisters and their husbands, along with altered composition books for each, with the theme "For My Childrens' Children". I've typed questions that will be cut into strips, then curled (like curling ribbon with scissors). Then each person can pull out a strip, attach it to a page in the book, and answer however they like. I'm going to put everything in a basket for each couple. Those mugs would make a great addition - will have to see if I can find some of those!

I got an early start this year - got my cards done in March but still going strong with getting things done!! Made so far: 100 cards, 14 tote bags, 3 scarves, 25 memo note tins, 20 pebble magnets, 7 folio note pad holders and an afghan! - Working on: 12 cocoa holders (need cocoa packets), 45 holiday smores (need the snowman peeps), 2 quilts (the tops are all assembled - working on the hand quilting), 1 afghan and 3 more totes!! Still need to make (have the ideas and supplies) 20 Christmas Eve invitations, 25 cards for work, 20 chocolate/caramel covered pretzel rods, and mine as well throw in a partridge in a pear tree! LOL - thinking I may need another month or so before it arrives!

Plus 24 Pumpkin poop, 25 Thanksgiving Cards, 45 Thanksgiving treats, 12 Ghiradelli chocolate boxes and 12 heart purses for Valentine's Day and have 18 baskets prepped for Easter!!!

I live 500 miles from my grandkids and they are coming here for Christmas! The girls are almost 8 and 5 1/2, and the boy is 2 1/2. I'm so excited! Unfortunately, they are not allowed to believe in Santa so I have to try to work around that but it does take some of the fun out of the holiday.

I have my Christmas cards done but not photographed yet. I only make a couple dozen, but I usually make them rather detailed.

I've sewn nightgowns for each of the grandaughters and need to sew an apron for one of them as she's outgrown the one I made her a few years ago. We plan to make homemade marshmallows. I might make some cards with them. We'll probably have a pizza and movie night. I haven't got all of our other plans formulated yet, but I need to plan a couple of outings.

Later this week I'm baking fruitcakes - yes, fruitcakes! My family always loved fruitcake. Last year was the first year I made them and they were wonderful! Very moist, nutty, and fruity, and spiked with rum! They will mellow between now and Christmas and will get soaked with more fruit juice and rum. The longer they mellow, the better they are!

OP...Beautiful card! And I too love Christmas and enjoy making stuff. Most of my family dont really appreciate the handmade stuff so much so a friend and I make stuff to sell at a large craft show the first weekend in December. So I get my fix of making stuff and hopefully make a little money....win/win!

I have been making some tins with mini notecards. They are here on my blog...
Southpaw Paper Arts: Note Card Tins
These were alot of fun to make!

I have been making some scrabble pendants and jewelry too and will make necklaces for my nieces for sure.
Southpaw Paper Arts: Scrabble Tile Pendants & Keychains

I need to sit down and make some Christmas cards too. I woul like to give some to my mom to send out. I might make some for my office here for us to send out if I have enough time. Thats my problem...plenty of ideas but not enough time! LOL

I just ordered my supplies to make my Christmas cards. I've been struggling to come up with new ideas for Christmas gifts this year, so I'll be checking this thread for new ideas.

Mine was completely wiped out except for one magnet with old eye glasses. Those mugs sound wonderful!

My gift giving for my family is slightly different. I love to bake and am the only one in the family that does any baking. I set up a cookie and muffin stand in the living room on Christmas morning. I have stamped tags on each muffin that either have a picture of the kind (i.e. pumpkin) or the name. Then I have decorated boxes (Sizzix die) for the cookies. And there is a decorated brown bag with handles to put the goodies in. The only rule is that everyone can take exactly what they want and Mom and Dad are not allowed to set limits. I bake 9 different types of muffins so there are plenty for everyone. The best part of this: my son comes over and helps with the baking and wrapping of the muffins. The cookies are just decorated sugar tea cookies - but they look really fancy.

LOVE all the great ideas so far!!! One new thing that I can't wait to tie on packages this year are felt snowflakes made from the Sizzix snowflake die. I take a nice, heavyweight piece of white cardstock, glue a piece of white felt down to the paper, and then crank it through my CB. Easy as pie, and soooooo adorably cute!!!

Keep the great tips comin'!!

joyfullyhis........Why not just run the felt directly on the die through your Cuttlebug? No need for the extra cardstock base. The Cuttlebug cuts through the felt very well.

Ok Ladies, I need your help. My brother wants me to make Christmas/Holiday gifts again this year for his clients. Last year I made those cute little PTI house templates and about 70 tins filled with chocolate.

This year he wants me to make one large gift with lights and something large that can be filled with chocolates?!! The only thing I have come up with is a metal oval tub, and I was thinking I could glue a poinsettia garland with lights around the rim and fill the tub with chocolates.

I don't know why he can't be more specific....do any of you have any ideas?

TIA

I actually tried this, but the felt was too limp without the support of the cardstock. Thanks for the idea, though!!

I made card #1 for my non-stamping friends.

I am making these calendars this year for my mom, sister and 2 friends.

Great ideas ladies!! I'm trying to come up with some items to make too.

I'm planning to make a couple pre-Christmas items...cookie sheet countdown calendars and pillow cases for the grandkids. They are almost 5 and 3 so know they will love both. Both their birthdays are at the end of November so will probably include these as part of their birthday gifts. That way they have all month to enjoy their pillowcases and can start the countdown calendar on December 1st. Depending on money and fabric I may try to find some winter type fabric for an extra pillowcase too.

Other ideas I'm planning to do:

Name frames ~ these are new to me and I think everyone will love them!

Notecards/tin for daughters and daughter in-law to be.

Some type of Christmas ornament for everyone.

I will be watching this thread for more ideas!! Thanks ladies!!

Tammy, for your Christmas pillowcases for the grandkids, maybe you already have this poem. I made cases last year and printed the poem on a tag and attached to the pillowcase:

MAGIC PILLOWCASE

Dec. 1st is a magical time
With all sorts of colors, ribbons, and rhymes.

Sugarplum fairies will dance in your head,
If you put this special pillowcase on your bed.

The reason is special
As you will see

It's that it has been dusted
With Christmas Fantasy.

Visions of candy canes, Santa and treasures
Will fill each dream with sweetness and pleasures.

When the time comes for it to be washed,
Wash it quickly, so no magic is lost.

Wow...you guys are so good. We are strictly a gift card family. I am hoping to just have the most quiet holiday ever this year. We were all together for my daughter's wedding in September...5 days in Vegas with family and then they returned to Dallas the following weekend for a second reception here. We will call that Christmas! lol

I love all your energy tho! Back to reading...

I just checked your gallery and I did see one little house...I am not sure how big is big? Is it just one big gift for the clients to share?

Hi Linda! That house is quite small and I believe it's the Shore House. I made them for his clients last year but they were decorated in a Christmas motif. He want's something "large" so the whole office can enjoy "one" gift, or so that's my understanding. He's not being very specific and it's driving me nuts!...heeheee

I was thinking of decorating this and filling it with chocolates..I sent him the link and haven't heard back..Brothers........

I have taken some pictures - but my computer is being a brat of late - it is going to be cleaned out this week so as soon as it is done I will start posting pictures of everything - including the invitation, thank you cards and the favors that I made for my great-nephews Baptism - hoping to sneak in a photo of his outfit that I made also.............

I'm sorry you missed them - they really were nice, especially for a buck!

My husband and I went on a cruise with my sister and I made a photo album of the cruise with SU My Digital Studio. I had and 12 x 12 pages printed and slipped them into a scrapbooking album so she can add her own little treasures that she saved from the trip. I am really pleased with the way it turned out and know that she will love it...by the way it was a really fun program to use....and very easy....

Keep the great tips comin'!!
What a great idea! And I can see why you would want the cardstock backing. It would be a limp snowflake without it.

Wow, so many organized people here! I'm very impressed!!

I am giving some frames with 4x4 opening and interchangeable seasonal inserts to my closest friends, and my mother in law. I'm also going to make those cute tissue box holders that were in last weeks Weekly Inkling for all the ladies in my SU hostess club. I saw some cute little jar that had a little battery operated tea light in it filled up with the iridescent shreds and decorated with ribbon and rub ons on the outside. Cute little Christmas decoration! I may make those for my Bunco group. If I give any gift cards out, I will use the gal over at Waltzing Mouse stamps template for the stocking gift card holder.... so cute!

I haven't started on my Christmas cards yet. I have an SU order coming in, hopefully by Friday. Then I can get started on those.

I love Christmas!!

Oh, I just love the card with the bird and trees. I have some bird stamps, and that saying would be perfect with them. Hope you don't mind me "borrowing" your saying and idea. Your card is so pretty! Thank you for sharing!

We have great taste in cards. I made one very similar for our Christmas card this year. I try to make a gift for the special people in my life and this year I am going to make the stamped tile coasters, trivets and magnets. I'm sure that's old hat to many, but I've never tried it before. I also plan on making baskets of cards which include cards for many occassions, holidays, etc. I also include some 64 cent stamps to mail them and a fun or pretty ink pen or 2.
Now, when it comes to "deck the halls" I'm going to try to pare down this year. We'll see how that works out. I have too many deck's that I just "have" to put out!
So many good ideas above and things made with so much love!

Ladies......I didn't spell it out in my previous post, but I was meaning that you would use the stiffer sticky backed felt for your snowflakes. Not the cheap flimsy felt.

Sorry for the confusion. I will be more specific next time.
