So, my MIL is an SU demo, she's got me all addicted and after reading all the convention stuff I want to go next year. I know that if I sign up to demo, I will end up having to order the $300 each quarter myself to stay active, I've got almost a $1000 dollar wish list so that doesn't really bother me that much. Couple things; is it worth it to be a hobby demo just for conventions, and when would be the best time to sign up? Do I need to do that now, or can I wait and then have only one quarter to meet before convention?

If you are only going to be a hobby demo, I would wait for a really good recruiting special. They are not pre-announced to us demos....i.e. don't harrass MIL!!! Just tell her that you are thinking about it and have her tell you when the next recruiting special is announced.
As far as Convention goes, we need to sign up in May. As long as you are a demo before registration, you are good to go!!!
I think the convention sounds like a blast. I'm not sure it is worth it to be a demo JUST to go to convention, but if you are going to spend the $$ on SU stuff anyway and want to go to the convention, DO IT!!
If I recall correctly, convention sign up is sometime in the spring, so you would obviously need to be signed up by then. They used to have one session and then broke it into 2. Next year they are going back to one, which I think will make it even more fun. But, when there were 2 sessions, I think there was plenty of space for anyone who wanted to go. With only one, even at the renovated Salt Palace (I think I have that right), it would make sense to sign up for convention as soon as possible.
Convention is pricey -- hotel and airfare are not cheap, although perhaps the latter is not an issue for you. Anyway, have a blast.

I mostly sell to me alone and have sold myself way too much stuff. It's fun to see things early, order anytime of the day or night, be able to sign on to the demo boards for great ideas, get a discount on the products you were going to buy anyway, etc. There's never an obligation to do a single party. And who knows, you might end up with a club or something and make more out of it. It's a nice ladies night out activity. So, wait for a sign up special and go for it. My only regret is going back to work right after I signed up. I just don't have as much time as I'd like to stamp. ;)
