Publishing Credit

So I was going through some old magazines last night and I noticed that sometimes it would just say a name - and other times it would say something like: Jane Doe for ABC Company!
Does that mean that Jane is a demonstrator for the company, on their design team, or actually works for the company?

I am guessing here, but I think it means that Jane works for the company in one way or another. Probably a Demo who sent in a submission for something or other. Just a guess though.
