Default gluing down ribbon

When I have used very sheer ribbon on the front of the card,in order for it to lay flat on the edge of the card, I have glued it down. I have tried 4 different kinds, and when dried, they still show up. What can I use besides glue to get the ribbon to lay flat?

I usually lay my ribbon wrong side up and run Mono Adhesive along it. When you lift it, the extra stays behind but your entire ribbon is then coated with the sticky stuff. It always has worked for me.

I also do the mono route on the back of ribbon for laying it down, one of the few uses for mono I have now that I use the mono multi liquid glue for everything else.

Like a lot of us, I use my little Xyron 150, it works perfect every time.
To save on it's use, I do several colors at one time and only remove the one I want to use. So I have a SU case with *ready ribbons* in it.

Have you tried glue dots? They work for me - but now I'm very intrigued by the zyron (have to go shopping now)

I use glue dots---one on each corner & sometimes a few inbetween, depending if it looks like the ribbon will need it.

When I use ribbon, it's usually on one of the layers, rather than on the main card - if that makes sense. That way, I can just tuck the ends of the ribbon behind the piece of cardstock and stick it down with anything I have handy. Once the layer is mounted on the card, the ends don't show.

If it is grosgrain or a darker organdy, I use glue dots. If it is light colored or see-through I use my xyron.

I generally use glue dots. Will investigate other means of securing it as mentioned here though!

I use either glue dots or Xyron 150. For the Xyron though, I prefer the permanent adhesive to the repositionable. You can see the repositionable one through the sheer ribbon and cannot see the permanent.

If I can wrap the ribbon around a layer and the back will be hidden, I use regular scotch tape. DON'T use mono multi! It bleeds through. Another trick I use is to punch a half circle (using a circle punch) on either side of the cardstock. Use them as notches to help the ribbon stay put without needing adhesive.

Sticky strips work great and are transparent plus nothing will make it come of. Just cut it to the size you need. It is great.

Default it worked :):)

Tried the small dots (zots) and the adhesive strips (zips) and worked beautifully. Make a sympathy card this morning and didn't have my usual battle with the ribbon. Thanks for all the hints. Pat

Not only does mono multi show through, but if you have dyed your ribbon (i.e. grosgrain ribbon dyed with ink pads/reinkers), it takes the color right out of it. I learned this the hard way yesterday!

Oh, too bad! I ruined a card made with Spring Flowers when it was in the mini. Grrr. I wasn't happy. But other than ribbon, Mono Multi is my very favorite glue.

My personal choice = Glue Dots
They are a freaking miracle in a box! I love these cause they are so small, and can fit anywhere you need them! They are very good for ribbons and bows, and they are really strong! If you can't find another way, go with the glue dots!!!

Very tiny glue dots so they don't leave a bump!

I agree with the tiny glue dots--works great! Plus it's strong enough and never come loose, so be sure you know where you want to put it. Once it's on it's hard to take out.

I've used the double-sided tape I use to adhere vellum to CS and it doesn't show at all.

I use my Xyron machine for long pieces and for short ones I use clear glue on them.
