I've never done the whole Copic marker thing, but I've been toying with the idea. Then I see that SU is offering something similar, so now I'm weighing my options. The bulk of my paper is SU, so that may be the better option for me. So, what do they cost?

I was very interested in these, as I don't have copics either. I'm a big SU fan and I'm about 85% SU. I've been reading they are not re-fillable, so I think I may cave and get some copics. I just loved the idea of SU doing the color choices for me. I'm overwhelmed with the amount of copic colors and how to choose!

I was so excited about this until I found out there are no refills. Seriously, SU, if you want us to buy them then you need to make them refillable. It is good business practice and it is environmentally friendly.
I don't know. When you consider they're only $3.98 per marker, compared to twice that much for a COPIC, maybe it's not such a big deal that they're not refillable. After all, how often do they really need replacing? Just a thought.
I use my skin tone Copics and the really pale colors for shadowing A LOT. These are the colors I used to start my collection, and they are still the ones I use the MOST so they do require filling more often. I'm so glad I have the refills on hand! I won't be getting the SU markers, I will just match my Copics to the cardstock.

I see these as kind of "copics light" which makes me happy! I have ZERO interest in copics for many reasons. First, I'm not very artistic in the sense that I'm BAD at coloring and shading and the like and figuring out which colors to use with ALL the copic options. Too overwhelming for me. These take the work out of it and it's "easy". I'm all about easy! I also tend to REALLY get into stuff and want ALL of it so I'd want all of the copics and then not use them all and not know which ones go with which ones. Again, the limited selection of these is actually a plus to me.
I don't think they are for everyone and not for those who are good with and experienced with copics (and kudos to those who are!!!!!). I think they are for the more "regular Joe's" who want to color without the "hassle" of copics. Copics for dummies maybe? Just speaking about ME here :-)
Right now they are not offering refills or anything. They did a lot of research and this is what they decided would be best for now and for the price point. Since they expect that "you" will use all three shades when coloring that you should run out of ink at about the same time in that color group. The tips are also supposed to be very durable. They are not like our regular marker tips, these are nylon.
I was dumb and didn't pre-order any (baby brain or from ordering at 2am in a bout of insomnia...you decide) to play with. I'll have to fix that! Just my two cents on them.
I think they are worth looking at. I know CTMH has alcohol markers that are sold in the 2 pack of different shades. I'm glad SU! has three. I also noticed that they're not in every color either.
I really think I will like these as well since I have no budget for Copics and like Minders I would want all of them (or most of them!) and the limited colors from SU will more than satisfy me. Plus I am no coloring buff, just like to play around!

It's possible. SU hasn't really said anything either way except for they did a lot of research and this is where they went for now. They tend to do "trials" of new things sometimes so that's probably why they aren't doing all the colors right now. I'm sure they will look at how it's going during this new catalog period and adjust from there!

If they make them refillable then I will be purchasing them. I love having things match but dislike the throw away portion. I'm all all about recycling and reusing. If they change them to having re-inkers I will be purchasing them. I hope they reconsider it.

I have read reference to copics for $4.95 from some online companies. I did look into Carp Diem. Also, I can get them slowly from Michael's and Hobby Lobby at 40% off. They don't have a huge selection though. Who knows, in the end I may go with SU, as I do love my SU!

I don't know. When you consider they're only $3.98 per marker, compared to twice that much for a COPIC.
Copic Ciao markers are available (at Blicks for example) for around $3.60 per marker and even Copic Original are around $5.25 there so nowhere close to twice the price of the SU! ones. Just a FYI in case anybody is tempted by Copics!

I was just quoting prices I'd seen in stores, which was significantly higher. Forgot about Dick Blick's.
I do not have Copics. I started purchasing Prisma markers some years back(from Dick Blick's, too! lol), and they are virtually the same thing. Not to mention that my Prismas last forever. They're magic...like the Versafine Onyx ink pad! LOL
I am intrigued by the SU only because I do not own Copic, and I think I'd like just a few to give it a try.
Minders, I did not know about the "baby brain"! Where have I been? Congrats!
Just FYI for anyone afraid to jump on the alcohol marker bandwagon (any brand)...You do not need to be experienced to get super results. You do not even have to shade! I started out with a skin tone marker (copic E01 was my preference), a blush (R20) for cheeks, and a pale blue-gray marker (copic B60) to outline for a shadow effect. Nobody else at the time had decent skin colors (no one I know had SU blush blossom skin!) Used just these for a while along with other coloring mediums that I had. Started to collects shades of colors later. What makes them so great is the smooth and saturated coloring you can achieve with NO marker lines. Don't be afraid, try one!
Yes, I LOVE the no marker lines! I think it takes some getting used to. For example, if you're used to coloring in an image with any Crayola marker, you will not get the desired effect. You kinda have to treat them like a paint brush and apply brush strokes, layering and building color and blending. And then you can think about things like light source, lighter/darker, and shading.
I used to combine my Prisma markers with my Prismacolor pencils all the time. It gives a great effect, and it's a trick that a lot of the artists use, like Mary Engelbreit, to color in large areas.
Now that I have the catalog in hand, I have to say that the samples they used to showcase the new blendabilities really did not do a very good job of selling them. I think they needed to send some of their artists to COPIC certification classes before making samples for the catalog. They just did not do a very good job of shading and blending to show uniqueness of these markers. Is it just me?

I actually really like the samples they included because it looks like something I can do. I'm not good at coloring and blending but I think I could make something that looks kind of like what they included. The samples in the SS magazine are pretty but I don't think I could ever color them that good.

I have to agree with your observation. I took a look at the new catalog (have not checked one out in several years) and was very surprised at the samples - they are not a good representation of the look you can create with copics.
By the way - what happened to all the Christmas stamps? Are they in a special catalog now?
Unfortunately the Blendas from SU will not be available when the catalog goes life. Disappointing. :-(
I just did a review for the Blendabilities and the rep I'm working with said all 12 color sets, skin tones and lifter will be available when the catalog comes out.

Unfortunately, this is not correct unless SU is saying something different than last week. At this point, we don't know exactly when they will be available to customers.

The issue I have with that is when one of the three runs dry you have to purchase another set of three as they are not sold separately. I'm just getting into alcohol ink pens and have chosen to start with Spectrum Noir designed and created for the person who is not really an artist but wants to look like it! I'm loving these and you get six in a package for $11.95 from Crafters Companion and they are refillable and also have replacement nibs along with the ability to purchase brush nibs if you would like. By the way - JoAnn's is getting rid of their first generation SN's cheap, but they aren't anywhere as good as the second generation which has a tighter cap helping the pen to stay wet for a long time.
I've seen some of the work done with the Blendabilities and they are beautiful - but then almost all the colors in SU are wonderful. Love their products!

This is correct - they will be available at the end of June-early July so that they will have enough supply on hand to meet the demand. Just read it on SU website for demonstrators.

I had to get a brown and orange Copic refill while making Pumpkin cards and Fall cards.
These are the same colors I had to keep buying makers from SU also.

Just wanted to chime in - SU is now selling Memento Tuxedo Black for use with the alcohol markers. This ink will not bleed as most other inks will do with alcohol markers.

Other Alcohol Marker Companies, Recommend you use Memento ink or something like it.
One thing youDON'T want to use is the Staz-On ink.....This is WILL NOT work with any Alcohol Markers.

I use Promarkers and have at times used Staz-on with no problems. I don't use it all the time .. just when I can't put my hand on the memento pad straight away

Staz-On is a solvent-based ink pad, designed for decorating non-porous surfaces. If you need an inkpad that will dry on most coated and non coated surface, including glass, metal, shrink plastic, acetate, aluminum foil, leather, wood and textiles etc then StazOn is the one you need.
StazOn is a fast drying solvent inkpad and is acid free and archival. This is a permanent ink.
Not recommended for use with alcohol inks, Promarkers , Copic Markers or Spectrum Noir.
Staz-On is a Solvent inkpad. and The Promarkers, Copic Markers, Spectrum Noir markers & Stampin Up! (new Blendabitlity Markers are all Solvent Markers.
