gift idea ?

my niece is 11 and i thought for xmas i would stamp her a journal and a pen does that sound too cheezy? im not sure what else to add to it if i do that.

I think that sound really wonderful. Don't know if you have a price limit, but. . . you could give her a completed journal and then maybe give her the supplies and directions, so that she can create one or two for her friends. From experience, I know at that age they like to be able to create too. Or better yet . . . maybe you could spend some quality "aunt time" with her and show her how to make the journal. Sometimes that makes a more important memory than the original gift would. Give her a gift certificates - for time each month, or whenever, to learn how to create her own gifts for family and friends. You will have made wonderful memories with her. I know when my Aunt took the time to show me how to knit - I have never forgotten and every time I pick up knitting needles, I think about her and the times we spent together.

i cant really spend "aunty" time with her as she lives in florida and i live in california. but thats a great idea of sending her extra supplies to make some for friends. i think im also going to make a cork board for her and maybee a dry erase marker board for her room.

You could make a journal jar to go along with the rest of the gift. I did this for my neice and a neighbor when they were 11 or 12.

A journal jar is just a canning jar filled with journal starters, like hmmm... "What have you learned about being a friend?" or "What is your favorite season and why?" I got lots of ideas from organizedhome.com where they have a journal jar for both adults and children. If you print off their slips, they say 'organized home' on the bottom. At another board I go to, Hearts at Home, someone posted a huge compilation of journal starters, both adult and children. I'll put a link to those.

I just print the starters off on slips of paper, fold them in half and place in jar. I put a tag around the jar telling them to pull a slip out, adhere it in their journal, and then write their answer.

I did a journal for my niece who was twelve but it was for scrapbooking. I then gave her a selection of stickers and some fun embellisments and a disposable camera. It was a big hit and the next time I saw her she immediately showed me her album with the pictures she took.

I'm sure whatever you decide on she will love.

Well, I can't resist the Altoid Tin compacts that Melmel made in the DD for that age grp! They MAKE me HAVE to by that Bratz looking stamp set! They are perfect for that age grp!

You could also wrap little chocolates with paper that matches the other stuff...kids digg chocolate! :P
