Question Friend in need...where's the best place to sell?

My friend's husband has lost his job...they have no income, insurance, etc. They have their house and boat up for sale...she asked me today about Craigs List....she is selling all of her stamping supplies......I told her maybe there was abetter way to go. Most of her stamps would be retired SU sets...as she hasn't stamped in a couple of years...where would be the best place for her to sell? Ebay?Craigs List? Su B/S/T? Any suggestions would be great...she wants to get the best price...and I'm sure all are in excellant condition.

If you have a list then you can post it in the B/S/T without listing fees - Ebay is also good.

how does that work? if someone offers her a price can she say no...or does she set the price to begin with? AND...how's the best way to know what the set is worth?

Get her to post a list of her stamps with a price that she would like for each set. Shipping is usually extra on top of it as is usually caluculated at the end. For example if she is selling Winter Roses she would list it like....

Winter Roses $15 (stained rubber)

Set name, price and condition of stamp set. She doesn't have to accept any pricing except what she is comforatable with. She should know what her bottom line is for what she would like to sell each set for. Go on over to the B/S/T and take a peek. Only retired items from the Stampin' Up! Catalogue may be sold. Any current items must be traded. Hope that helps

Thanks, Kim...I called her and told her to make a list....does SU have a list of retired sets and what they originally sold for? She told me most her sets have never even been cut out.

I can find out for you I have most of the old catalogues and can give you the prices. If you like you can email me at [email protected] or private message me a list of sets that she would need the pricing for.

I've sold many things on eBay over the years (and bought plenty on there too).

I'm not sure how much stuff your friends has, but if she has a significant amount of SU stuff, I would suggest grouping the sets into "lots" - it'll be the fastest and least time-consuming way to get rid of it (instead of doing set by set). Your friend will need an eBay and PayPal account.

She'd likely make a bit more selling set-by-set, but when you factor in the time and eBay and PayPal fees, it's often not worth it to do it that.

For non-SU stuff or lesser quality/older stuff, I think Craig's List is a good option or group it all together, take a couple pictures, and sell it all together on eBay. Also, she should see if there's a Cheapcycle Yahoo! Group in her area. If there's a LSS in the area, she could ask if she could hang a flier. The key is to reach the people that want to buy this sort of thing - your average joe (or jane) isn't going to give you a fair dollar for it.

I had a garage sale last June, mainly all retired stamps and papers. I advertised on Craigslist, once on a Monday, in the Arts and Crafts section, then again on Friday morning, in the general area and Arts and Crafts.
I listed them as $5 and $10. Papers as 2-5$. Alphabets $15.
I did not put pics or names of sets (too many! lol).
Come Sat morning, I had a TON of people from all over, and I ended up making $1200.00.
And I STILL have 3 large Rubbermaid boxes of stamps left over. So my neighbor and I are going to do the once-a-month flea market at a nearby Community college.
Another friend sold ALL her stamps and papers there, in 4 hours she made $500.
Good luck to her!

That sounds like a good way. She had wanted to list on Craigs list, but I think just seperately....I'll tell her about the garage sale. Thanks.

i know a lot of people watch craiglist, and if you specifically post Stampin' Up! stuff, you'll get people that are interested in just that, rather than folks out shopping for deals at garage sales that might by chance be looking for crafting supplies. i think Tandra has the right idea!
