I was a hard sell when it came to those big punches. It seemed like a lot of money for something that would take a lot of room, and I could do--what was it?--with it. BUT I bought the two circle punches and I LOVE THEM!!! The very next week I ordered the slit punch--it's great, too! I'M DEFINITELY SOLD, and can't wait to get the square ones and the paper piecer!

I have to also say worth every penny. The whale tales are great and I really get a lot of good use out of them. Great for layering and making windows. Love them :!:
I think they are VERY worth it. Before SU had the whale punches they sold a Marvy punch. I had the old Marvy square punch... hated it. I had to stand whenever I punched anything and I'm such a weakling... no upper arm muscles to speak of... so I never demo'd it.
The very day after SU came out with these whale punches I ordered one and posted my old one for sale on ebay. The sale of my old punch paid for my nice new whale one and I LOVE it.
When I go into Michael's and see all the old style punches I am so NOT tempted to ever go back there...
When I first got into SU, I didn't get them. Instead I bought the Maurvy?
ones. Anyway, I LOVE the SU punches. They are smooth and you don't need extra "force" to get your puches out. Plus they are quiet!
I love them. I have been demoing them for awhile now, & my customers have fallen in love with them & are purchasing them too. It does seem like a lot, but once you have it you realize how the design makes them so
easy to use & so worth the $13.95.
I have a scrapbooking club & some of the ladies there were talking about how they already had the CM square punch, but that they liked the SU so much more they were seriously contemplating replacing them.
You will never regret purchasing them. And to have them both is so nice - great for layering. SU used to have the little squares you could buy but this is so much better! I have all the big punches (and most of the little ones, too) and I love them!
I have the old Marvy, the CM, and the SU. The non-SU ones are getting dusty.
I LOVELOVELOVE the SU punches (I have a bout 10 of teh SU punches) I think they work great, and are easy to use. LOVE THEM!

I guess I really did get the bad ones of the bunch... after sending THREE sets back due to them not punching cleanly I decided I will cut my own squares and will wait till the get the punches right... maybe I need to get them again now that it seems everyone is having good luck with them!
OMG! I loooooooove my punches! I have all four of them and use them all of the time. They are perfect for my shaker cards. I don't know what I did without them! Go for it!
Wow! I'm ordering one of the square punches today, because you guys all love them so much. I'll have to put the other one on the next order. My spending has to be spread out. Thanks everyone for your input.

That's great. Can't wait to see what you do with them. Be sure to post your creations, ok?!
I really do love them. The biggest reason is the time savings I get from not having to cut out my own squares for layering. I find that if something takes too long to make, I just don't do it, so I am now buying more and more of the tools SU! offers that will save me time...the 1/2" circle punch, both sets of the large circle and square punches, and now I am looking at the 1/4" circle and square punches with the whale tails. I also love the wheel guide because I can so quickly wheel a bag and it is lined up perfectly!
BTW, if they stick, you can punch them through waxed paper several times, or if they get dull you can punch them through aluminum foil to sharpen them.

I had this exact same thing happen. I've sent back so many punches due to fuzzy edges that I've just stopped ordering punches. I, too, may have to try again.
All of you that are loving your SU punches have perfectly clean edges and precise corners?
I have all the SU punches and they are so easy to use. Remember, you may be paying a bit up front, but it is a one time purchase and they will get used over and over for many different projects. Enjoy!

I would go with CM. Why? Because they now have circle, heart, square, star and hexagon. They have two punches of each shape, all in graduated sizes. You can layer, make windows and everything with any of those shapes. You can check it out here:
does anyone know if the large square and circle are the same size as the EK Success sq/circle whale of a punch...I have those and wouldn't want to double up?

I have the CM square punch and I LOVE it. I have never tried the SU ones but the price is much better on CM because you get 2 in 1 and you never have to look through a bunch of different punches to find the ones you want. They are right there together! HTH

I have all of the CM punches, too and love them. But I felt limited in WHERE I could punch my squares, etc. I finally broke down and purchased the 1 3/8" square and LOVE it. As easy as the CM ones are to use, the SU is even easier.

I have the CM square punch. I like that both sizes come in one punch but.....I find it hard to judge where my punch is going to be on my paper (especially when punching multiples from the same sheet). I went to a stamp camp and my demo let us use her square punches. They were so easy. You can see very easily where you are punching (turn it over and you can see your image or square). I had never turned my CM one over to see where I was punching so I tried it when I got home. I could see where I was punching, but it was very hard to punch it with it turned over. I would spend the money and buy the SU square punches. I have added them to my wishlist.
I love mine too. I can't wait to get the 1/4 circle, it will work perfect with the new 1/2 circle I got last month

Personally, that was the one thing I truly wasn't impressed with. I tried layering the too and it just doesn't look as good as the other items I layer.
And thanks for telling me I wasn't the only one with a defective punch. I'm going to call SU tonight (if I remember).
I have the CM punches, but it annoys me that you can only punch really close to the edge of the page. I like that there is more flexability with the SU punches. I borrowed them from a customer, and like them better than my CM ones.
Another plus - I personally find the whale-tail punches much easier to punch out upside down so that you can see the cardstock you are punching when trying to line something up. The kind of punch you have to use your palm for, are often too hard for me to punch upside down
