I'm going second session, just wondering how the Holiday Inn accommodations are for those of you who have checked in already? I'm staying here (obviously!) and convinced my UL and sideline that we would be fine there and save a bundle. I'm sure the rooms are ok but I"m hoping that since they've been doing the remodeling for Crowne Plaza that things are extra nice and hopefully no construction still ongoing. And oh yea, is it very far to the convention center? We usually stay at the primary convention hotel but yikes, the prices for the Hyatt were unbelieveable! Jan

Construction is still going on. They actually over-booked the hotel and had to move some people to a different hotel. I am not there yet so I am no help other than that.
Cool, then that's where I'm staying also. How far is it from the convention center. According to Mapquest it's .14 miles which looks like a block and a half. Anyone else staying here?
I will be there (Holiday Inn/Crowne Plaza) for the second session as well. The gal that made our reservations forwarded us a copy of a letter they sent out saying to excuse their mess. There is still ongoing construction but the rooms have been completed. There is no pool available, due to construction. I'm just excited to be going to convention!
I was there last night meeting up with some friends. It's a mess, construction-wise. But the rooms are nice. They did have to move because their A/C wasn't working correctly, but I guess the staff was accommodating and found them a new room.

We're good, cool and the rooms are soft sky and chocolate chip. Our vending and ice machines weren't working/were empty. No water in the machines for three floors up either. :(
I'm using their free internet so I shouldn't say too much bad I guess.
I'm there now and it's nice...a bit of a mess with construction but I figure that we really aren't going to be in our room that much--take a shower and drop off stuff during the day while construction is actually going on...but the night should be fine for snoozing. I didn't have any problems sleeping last night but then again--I didn't sleep the night before since I was finishing up my swaps for the dinner and shoebox swap. The restaurant is good--seems to have a reasonable menu for breakfast (yogurt, bowl of fruit and coffee was $6.76) and someone else said the food was good at dinner last night.
We're about 2 blocks away--1 block up and 1 block over and then same thing for the open mall area on the other side of the hotel...so basically whatever one needs is within a 4-5 block area.
Thanks for the feedback, guys...I'm thinking the noise level at night during convention will be much worse than during the day for construction!!! I didn't get any "excuse our mess" letter...maybe I should call and confirm my reservation just in case??? I did print out the confirmation but I am a little paranoid, I guess. ;-)
And free internet??? hmmmm, that is making my decision to travel with my laptop a little harder. I had almost convinced myself to leave it home because of the headache of getting it thru security but if there is free wireless in the room then mebbe I'll deal with it after all. My carry bag is on wheels and I use it for my carryon usually....my swaps do fit in it. I like to travel light as much as possible but sure would be nice to be able to check mail plus I like to download the photos from my camera at night so my memory card is good to go in the morning for more photos.
Hi! I'm staying at the Holiday Inn too - for second session. I REALLY am interested in how far things are because I just got my cast off my broken foot. Will I be able to get to stuff okay? I hobble okay, but my foot gets soooo tired easily. I'm still comin' though! Thanks for any info. Jan
I'm at the Holiday Inn Downtown on Glenarm, where is the Crown Plaza Holiday Inn located. I'm also at 2nd session with some other demos.
I will be at that Holiday Inn too for 2nd session....when do you get in? I'll be there Sunday....hoping they let me in early...if not I'll be the one stamping in the lobby LOLOL.

You are lucky because convention is on that side of the convention center! And the 16th Street Mall is only 2 blocks away and has all the restaurants you could ask for, plus a free shuttle that runs you the length. ;) Have fun!

Awesome....glad to know I picked a good spot! It was a last minute decision on the hotel
For those of you who got shuffled to the OTHER Holiday Inn (denver city central?) Plan on long waits for the shuttle. Yesterday my friends dropped me off and went to their hotel (the Curtis) and it took them an hour to get back, I guess there was an accident on the interstate. Without traffic it should have taken about 10-15 min.
The hotel booked additional shuttle service for today and the shuttle company left them high and dry! There was about 50 of us waiting this morning for nearly an hour.

Ok, that does it...I'll take the laptop! Jan
It isn't that big of a deal. I travel several times a month with mine. The key is having it in a bag that is easy to get it out of. It must go in a bin all by itself. I'm quite the site sometimes with about three bins and two bags! Just wear shoes that don't need to be untied and one layer of clothing. You have to remove any sweaters, jackets, etc. They made me go thru secondary screening last time because I had a baggy sweatshirt on. I was trying to avoid having to take off a jacket.

My upline is staying at the Holiday Inn right now, along with a couple in our team, and all hate it!!! The pool is not open, the construction is still ongoing, the customer service is really bad and the ice/vending machines are not working properly! Also, my upline asked for a wake up call this morning and never got it. Thanksfully I am at the Marriot Residence Inn and have a beautiful room. I really feel for anyone staying at the Holiday Inn.

You're a life saver - or should I say a foot saver? Thanks for the info! Jan
Be careful if you think you have a room here. There were quite a few of us who were sent to another Holiday Inn about 25-30 minutes away. We were never notified that we were being booted so we got there with bags in hand only to find out that we weren't staying there... Nope, we got a beautiful TAXI ride through the ghetto to our hotel.... There is no rhyme or reason to the shuttle service - so wear your walking shoes...
So, you might want to give them a call to make sure you will actually have a room.
I'm at the Residence Inn 2nd session. Are you walking to the convention center or taking the light rail?
Thanks!
Crystal

I do believe that my friends that are there got a letter explaining the construction and that the pool would be closed. I guess it's all what you want out of your hotel. When my friends wanted to switch rooms at midnight the first night because their A/C wasn't working, the staff got them a new room immediately, no questions asked, and they even moved the bags for them. It's not the Ritz, but it's just a place to sleep and shower for them.
uh, I am getting a bad feeling about this....I did call the other day and confirmed my room but maybe I will call back and ask them to make sure it's at the convention hotel and not shuttled over to the other one. Yikes!
Thanks for the feedback....I'm not expecting the Ritz or anything but will feel bad if it's an unpleasant experience because I convinced my UL that it would be fine. Maybe I'll pack a small collapsible cooler and buy a bag of ice at the nearest store. Jan
I am worried just by reading this thread. I have a reservation at the Holiday Inn and NEVER received a letter regarding the over-booking or construction. I did call about 2 weeks ago to ask a general question and they had my reservation. I will call now to make sure, we are not shuffled to the other hotel.
I am staying at the downtown Holiday Inn/Crowne Plaza hotel with my upline and her upline/sister. When we got here on Tuesday, the machine for making room keys was broken and it took about 30 minutes before we finally made it into our rooms. The fridge we had reserved was missing, but was delivered about one hour later. We aren't having any problems with the A/C (some of our neighbors did), and we aren't hearing any of the construction noise as we are staying on the 10th floor. We are getting our wake-up calls every day, and the location is very convenient: close to the convention center, and close to 16th street.
To all you ladies staying at the Holiday Inn/Crowne Plaza -- is there some way we can all meet up and walk to the convention center together in our jammies on Monday night? My last name is Brown and I'll be with my upline (Collins) if someone wants to call our room. I'm hearing there's not much of a lobby, but maybe we could all gather by the check-in desk. If it's 2 blocks to the convention center, maybe a half hour before the pajama party starts?

Sounds good to me. I will be there. I think in a group a lot of women in pj's (and mine are silky) is better than a few here and there.

FWIW, we found out tonight that the SU! people, including Shelli herself, are all staying at the Holiday Inn. A couple of SU! roadies popped into our shoeboax swap, and I saw Jaron get off the elevator in the lobby.
Ok- there has been much talk about the downside to the HI. Let me say this... for those of you who got moved to the other HI- I feel for you with the commute. This location certainly planned to have more rooms completed than they did- that is the reason for the move. It is under complete renovation and when that is done the hotel will be wonderful. As I am sure many of you are used to- construction is never fun for anyone. We deal with loads of it on our highways everyday and this is no different here. It is rough on the guests, but it is rough on the hotel staff as well. They have been dealing with it since October, we have to be "put out" for 4-5 days. I personally had a couple of issues that were dealt with very promptly and most certainly to my satisfaction. I held a shoebox swap here this evening and the entire staff was very accomodating and nice. Not one person has been rude or short with me and are alternately very helpful. For those of you upset about no pool, I am sorry that you are miffed, but we did receive a personal email approximately 2 weeks ago stating that the pool would not be available for our use while we were there- so this should have come as no surprise.
I guess what I am trying to say is that the hotel has been very good to me. The beds are comfortable the rooms are clean and the staff is nice. Yes- there is construction, yes there is a ton of workers back and forth, yes the elevators are kinda a pain, but it is nothing in the grand scheme of things and I think that overall it should not affect anyone's general perspective of convention.

I think after last year's fiasco with my hotel losing power...construction will be a breeze...of course, I am trying to see this situation in a most-positive light since everyone's nerves run high during Convention! If there is a/c and hot water, I am confident it will be great!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be there with two other demos, and would love to walk to the convention center in PJ's in a group. I'm sure we can meet up right outside the hotel, just look for PJ's - LOL.
My friend & I were bumped from the downtown HI to the HI Central. The room was nice and we never ran out of hot water. For the most part, the staff was friendly and very helpful. We used the shuttle for the 1st 2 days, but then decided to drive on the last day and that worked out GREAT!
I wish I could go back to convention--LOL, but I have to return to work tonight. Waaaaahhhhhhhh.
Blessings,
Jacque
