Default Foam Mounted Stamps

Does anyone here have much experience with Foam Mounted Stamps?

A member has a set on my wish list, but it is Foam Mounted. I've never used Foam Mounted stamps before and am hoping to get some feedback before I decide to trade for it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

When I first started purchasing SU stamp sets, I bought a number of foam mounted. My preference naturally is wood mount. My experience with the foam mount is you almost always need to check/clean the edges after inking prior to stamping. To me, foam mounted is a slower task.

I intend to remount my sets at some point in time, just hasn't happened yet. but I know it can be done with success.

I myself, quit using the foam mounted stamps that I bought when I first got into this addiction. I never got "what I felt was" a clean stamped image. I like the solid feel with the wood/acrylic stamps.

Is it possible to pull these guys apart and remount them onto wood, or am I setting myself up for a big mess?

Hi!
About 1/3 of my SU stamps were foam mounted. I liked that I could get the image for less as compared to the same set in wood. I was doing the more for less buying plan. It is true that you could catch the corner of the stamp with ink, so I had gotten in the habit of just using a damp towel (old wash cloth set aside for stamping) to clean the edges before stamping. The one thing I didn't like about foam mounted stamps is that over time the label would come off the foam and you'd have to reattach them.
This past summer I unmounted all of my stamps, both wood and foam. I'm so glad I did, saved tons of room and I have no trouble finding or using what I have.
The one trick I did learn about the foam mounted stamps is you have to get the adhesive off the back of the die. Some pulled off really easy and some I had to take a craft knife and sort of gently scrape the adhesive layer off. If not the die will curl off the storage page or you'll have so much of the black foam stuff stuck on the die that the adhesive won't stick.
I was able to unmount all my foam stamps and they work just fine.

Good Luck
