I am new to SU! and I was wondering if people know ahead of time which stamp sets will be retired or if that is a secret until they are released in April and May. In the past, what kind of discounts have been offered on these retired sets? The reason I am asking is because I am going to a party next month and I will buy a few of the 50% of sets being offered. When I asked the demonstrator if there discounts like this often she said that specials were run all the time but in April and May, the retired sets were on special. If we had an idea of what kind of discounts or which set were discounted than we could hold off on those sets til they went on sale and buy others now.
Demonstrators get the retired list on May 15th. On June 1 it is up on the SU website for customers. In my almost 7 years, there has never been a discount on retiring sets. Sometimes individual demonstrators will offer a discount, but it might be only 10%. So take advantage of the 50% off sets in March!
SU does run promotions every month...except I don't think I remember any in June. The retired list is just a way of letting you "get it while you can". Any specials offered on retiring sets is just from an individual demo.
Your demo was wrong in saying there are specials on retiring sets in April and May since no demo knows before May 15th what will be retiring. There will be other promotions, but it won't be on retiring sets per se.

I guess this is a little off-track, but why doesn't SU offer some kind of special on retiring sets? Doesn't even have to be a discount on the set itself, but something like free shipping would help to move a lot more sets I think.

My customers are always asking that too. But maybe if they offered a retirement special one year, everyone would keep expecting one every year. I think they like to keep the specials unexpected and fresh.
They had the 1/2 off of certain sets last year and they were still in the catalog. I know that Cheery Chat was on sale and it is for sure in there. I can't ever remember them having a big sale and retiring the stamps. I honestly believe that SU is a company that likes to reward their customers every now and then. The have gone way above and beyond on numerous occasions.
I understand why we would think that offering a discount on retiring sets would be nice from a demonstrator's perspective, but it would not be good as a business model.
The sets are already retiring, making them in more demand. Stampin Up! would not want to do anything that would create more demand than there already is. This would cause the supplies to be exhausted and they would have to do yet another run of a set they intended to stop producing. I believe stamp sets are something that you don't produce just one or two of. They could end up with unweildy amounts of unsold extras as a result of having to produce more runs.
This is the reason they don't publish the list of the retiring wheels and accessories. They don't want to produce more demand arournd those things, causing them to run out and have to restock at the last minute.
