Default Best lightest good card stock for layering?

Up to now I have not targeted paper to be specifically just for layering....so while I have a bit of 65lb it was more for color than weight. (pearlized)

If I wanted to start collecting some layer weight paper-what is the lightest you would go? 65b? This is just for an underlayer to say a sentiment piece and I want to keep the card thin....is there lower than 65? I have some 40lb vellum...but that is in reverse-that is heavy for vellum.

When I poke around it feels like I am seeing under 65lb index stock at staples kind of thing...I know there is a ton of thin DP but I am looking for solids...maybe I have to get it by the sheet at Michaels's?

I am wondering if people are coloring on xerox paper-I could do that-match with the pens I used to do a border edge...? That would save both money and space...but would it look weird/cheap as my sentiment would likely be on 80 or 110...I want to be able to sell some of them but keep postage for them down.

Of course I am probably overthinking this as usual

TIA

I've bought light weight colored paper to print on at places like Staples, those run 20-32 lbs. Personally I wouldn't use it for cards though, just too thin, could tear easily and not really that much less expensive than CS.

I've been fairly impressed with the Colorbok papers at WalMart - solids and patterned. I also like the Recollections packs from Michaels (too lightweight for bases, but great for layering and diecuts). Having said all of that, I will also say that I am trending more toward only having neutrals and coloring edges of mats if/when needed. I do that at least half the time anyway, because I never seem to have the right shade.

There are some heavier weight copy papers that I bought to make booklets with (I wanted them to feel more luxurious or something), and they would probably work okay, but I wouldn't suggest the flimsy stuff...

That's the second time I have heard about walmart for crafts in 2 weeks. I suppose I really need to take a look at them at least. I would have to order it-I dont have one near me.

I just did a Google search for "Colorbok" and it's available on Amazon, too...

Colorbok has been around for a long time, years ago I worked at a Scrapbook store and we carried their items, always good quality stuff.

Thanks. I went with the michaels 65# as I needed something else there anyway. Just basic colors like reds, blues and greens. They are half price so I figure it is a good time to try it. I just didn't know if there is lighter than 65 and still ok.

I am so impressed with what Susie (susie australia) does with copy paper I am looking at it differently now.

Thanks guys. I have broken brain right now so it is great to be able to ask.
