Default Faux Ribbon (tape ribbon)

Here's a link to a technique to use when you are out of ribbon or the right color of ribbon. You can even match a patterned paper to a patterned ribbon:

Directions:

The ribbon is a length of 3/4 inch cellophane tape stuck to any colored or patterned paper. I used a file folder - stiff paper gives the 'ribbon' more strength. Burnish the tape with the side of your fingernail or something smooth that won't damage the tape. Once it's stuck down very well, lift up one end and QUICKLY pull it up off the paper. The paper underneath will come off with the tape in a thin layer. If there are rough edges of paper wider than the tape, cut them off (or have fun with a different looking 'ribbon'). Now, fold the long edge of the tape back 1/4 inch on each side and crease the folds so you end up with a 1/4 inch wide 'ribbon'. It's strong and flexible enough to be tied as shown on my card, but not as strong as real ribbon.

Default Thanks

This sounds like fun. Next time I want to match my ribbon with my patterned paper I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for sharing

Where can I buy cellophane tape? Is it something that is available at any store, like Walmart? Also what department would I find it in? The Packing tape and materials section?

Thanks,
Christine

D'oh! I had no idea. I feel pretty stupid now.
That's a really cool technique though. I'm going to have to try it since I'm one of those that just don't buy too much ribbon.

Thanks!
