I have an article cut from a stamp magazine a couple of years ago. It is just a short 1/2 page and I don't have the source. I will see if I can find it and see if there are any clues as to where it came from. It is a crafting magazine of some sort.

I am curious? Can you tell me your source for this knowledge? I usually don't just believe everything I read. I need to have solid facts from a valid source. I find it very had to believe it only costs 50 cents; especially for the quality American made stamps that SU offers.

And in case you weren't aware people design the images that the stamps imprint. I would imagine that sort of artistic talent is not cheap to hire. I also believe SU offers electricity, heat, plumbing, etc. to their employees. They probably have to pay them a salary to work. They probably have to pay for insurance benefits. All of this is not free.

So how did you come up with 50 cents again???

If it costs 50 cents and there's a 1200% mark up would that mean they shoud be selling stamps for $600 each?

As much as I love my stamps I might have to start drawing again myself if they were that pricey........hehe

Hehe... actually it would be .50 x 12, or $6.00 each. Still quite a major chunk of change though!

Sounds about right for the price of craft store stamps.

Ok I must apologize for my previous snarky post. It's just that it seems like people are over reacting to the whole price increase thing. It's not like SU is out there trying to rip people off. They have a quality product that they set at what is to them a fair price. People need to be paid and SU is very good to their employees. Starbucks just had a nation wide price increase in the last few months and you didn't see any protests over that. Besides the increase in paper costs is only a penny a sheet - I think we can all handle that.

So, once again - something from a couple years ago doesn't really reflect the market of today.

UGH! Why, oh why, have math and economics invaded my happy little rubber stamping world? Please make it go away...

Rubber stamping is fun and happy and relaxing ... math and economics, not so much.

So the prices went up .... SO WHAT???? I'm so over it already! Companies raise prices for their goods ALL the time and I don't know of any company out there that isn't trying to turn a profit. I just don't find a price increase all that strange ... call me crazy...

So anyway, what I really wanted to say is this - Isn't anybody excited about all the new stuff in the preview catalog? Isn't anybody looking forward to the full catalog? Oh and how about seeing all the COOL creations in the gallery here on SCS? And when you get your catalog will you be thumbing through the glossy pages, checking out all the new stamp sets and cool accessories and project samples and making a wish list a mile long OR will you have your calculator out along with your Excel spreadsheets as you try to determine the difference between the cost this year and the cost last year and some sort of weird compounded something or other over the past 5 years taking inflation into account all the while?

Please can we just let this be fun? 'Cause that's what it really IS all about ... remember?

I will tell you, my wallet will be hurting when I get to preorder, but DH is gonna KILL me when July 1 comes. I'm just sure I'm going to have to have most of the new catalog, considering it's going to be practically all new!

No, the mounted vs. unmounted actually a rubber only vs. rubber and wood debate. If the stamps came premounted, priced for the sets would escalate much higher because the mounting process would take a lot more human attention.

Some demonstrators will mount the sets for their customers for a fee... why not ask if your demo would do so and what she would charge?

Yes, it was in the February 2005 Country Craft Gallery Magazine. They quit publishing it in June 2005. Page 42 under the Craft Details section.

That's about the most ridiculous statement you have made yet. Have you even LOOKED at the price of wood lately? I just had 16 pieces of 1by & 3 pieces of 2by delivered. (all 12 ft. long) My bill was just under $200. I still have to cut, sand it, rout it & put a finish on it. I ain't doin that for .50 a piece, honey!!
Table saw $500
Chop saw $200
Router & table $125
Bits $60
Sanders $90
Building my own arbor priceless

OK. I'll just keep telling myself that when I go grocery shopping and to fill my gas tank (among other things) and maybe one of these days I'll believe it. I'm out on this topic.....

In response to the question posed about being excited for the new catalog??!! YES!!! I cannot wait!!! I just momentarily got derailed from that purpose.

I love that pick a petal set - just think of all the fun we can have with that one. The baroque stuff is so awesome, the bling is cool. Now I just want to see all the other goodies they have in store for us.

And if rubber is so cheap, why did it cost me $480 for 4 new tires? If you don't like wood mounted stamps, you don't have to buy them.
Your research should extend further than a 2 year old article, though. Talk to a manufacurer. Ask what it costs to have a dye made.

This isn't true of our Walmart... Generally milk in the groceries here is $3.50ish... our Walmart is at $2.88... but you're right, our gas station has it for $2.90 as well.... (trying to draw peeps in since their gas is typically .10 cents a gallon higher than all the other stations around here )

My mom works for a company that makes the boxes to SHIP them in... and SHE makes $18/hr just to work on ONE machine that makes these boxes... there are typically 4 different machines involved in the process... each machine has at least two people running it...

Now, do the math... how much do you think the price of producing the boxes (and brown paper, and clam shell cases, and the electric to run the pick line, and the person to pick the items, and the tape to close the boxes.... you get the drift...) cost?

It may cost only pennies to produce the actual stamp, but there are other expenses not factored in...

Scrappin31 I meant to quote Housefan, something went wacko! And it's too early in the morning for me to go back and change it!

'Cause that's what it really IS all about ... remember?
Ok, this is a pet peeve of mine... someone coming in and reminding me that I DID love the preview until I saw all the complaining and whining over a few pennies!

I see the sarcasm smilie was missing again... she's well aware there is more to producing milk... that was the whole point...
