Eyelet Help
 

When I set my eyelets, I try to be really careful not to split the back. What am I doing wrong, even when I don't hit it very hard. When I see some eyelets they look so nice and rounded on the back. Help!!

If your eyelet setter has a point on it that looks like a star, it is supposed to create a "flower" pattern with the eyelet (meaning it will split it in the back). The only way I know to get the backs of eyelets to "roll" is to use a special setter that looks like a cone at the tip. It's one of the options in the MM Universal Eyelet setter set, but I've never gotten mine to work properly. I've gotten used to the split eyelet look ...

on different embellishments and how to use them at ck convention. The lady said to get a tile from a home store and put your mat on it. Then just tap lightly so the front doesn't get bent - which is the problem I seem to have. HTH!

I have found that the setting tool makes a difference. the larger eyelets are more secure I think when they are split in the back. For most small eyelets I always try to set them with my 1/16th inch punch first. I set SU star eyelets the other day with my hand held punch. This rolls them and they look nice. I like this look best if they eyelet shows on the inside of the card. If it's layered and not going to show then I don't care about the split backs.

If you take your setter put it in the eyelet and roll it around it will help it flare and not split when you finally set. Does that make any sense at all? Hold the setter straight up then move the top in a circle, keeping the point stationary. I don't think I'm explaining this very well ;)
