I have not tried this for soot stamping, I did for melted crayon and it did not work at all, the paper melted at a much lower temperature then the glossy did. Not as thick of paper either.

I can't answer about Soot Stamping, but I used photo paper in a pinch for some bookmarks a while back and the ink colors changed in just a couple weeks.
photo printing paper has a glue on the surface that solidifies ink when used in your printer...my guess is that it would react with the "soot" and cause it to solidify. I'd try it using an old stamp if you have an extra sheet of photo paper laying around. One problem you might have is the glue from the paper putting a film on your stamp...I'm sure it will wash off though...
Occasionally photo paper will work for some techniques, but a coworker of mine tried substituting it for the SU! glossy in a project once since she had quite a bit on hand, and she just got a big mess. Better to go with the SU! glossy from the start and save yourself the headache! ;)
