Embossed Envelopes with Cuttlebug

Has anyone put the envelopes in the embossing folders and mailed them? I did one to match the card and it looks so pretty - just wondering what the PO might charge for that!!

greetingsbydebra 04-12-2008 05:16 AM

What a cool idea! I never thought of that. I'll bet the PO will charge extra for that. You could send me a card and try it. ;)

robynstamps 04-12-2008 05:22 AM

I have received them done this way. Thanks for the reminder!! I am going to run out to Michael's today and pick up some for 50% off.

Ireland 04-12-2008 05:34 AM

I just started dooing this and it is ADDICTING!
They look so cool - I only do the back flap...

RIRed2 04-12-2008 05:38 AM

what a great idea

GloriousGreetings 04-12-2008 05:53 AM

I don't think there should be extra postage as long as the Address is clear and easy to read and the stamp can be put on securely so it stays.

What a great idea..will have to try this...even if just cuttled a portion of the envelope.

Topaz_n29 04-12-2008 06:11 AM

What are embossing folders please? thanks ..ahead..loves ya

The Gardener 04-12-2008 06:18 AM

I only emboss the back flap and that seems to add a designer look.

madstamper33 04-12-2008 06:26 AM

Gail the embossing folders are the larger ones that you run through the cuttlebug that leaves the paper embossed. Some of them are called Swiss Dot and Stylized Flowers for instance. I beleive you have already used these (the script one on your sympathy card) thats in your gallery. HTH

Textured plates that run through the Cuttlebug machine. Totally cool. I just got the Disney Magic Happens folder and there is an image that is for the address line on the envelope. Haven't tried it yet but should. CB rocks!

Jennifer Styles 04-12-2008 07:50 AM

Can we see pics of these envelopes? Please o please?

kristransue 04-12-2008 07:53 AM

momis mama 04-12-2008 08:13 AM

CB envelopes

I have done the flap of the envelope on ones that I have sent through the mail, but I was afraid to do the whole thing because I was afraid the the stamp would come off. I have done the whole envelope if it was one that I was handing to the recipient and let me tell ya - it's got a wow factor for sure!

Here's a thought - what if you address and stamp the envelope BEFORE putting it through the Bug? That way the stamp would have all points of contact rather than just the raised portions of the envelope. My mailman is grumpy sometimes - this might just push him over the edge!

Jutta

kristransue 04-12-2008 09:00 AM

Thanks for posting the pictures, it really is a nice touch. I usually do a lot of handmade cards that get hand delivered, so I don't worry too much about a grumpy postman. This would be great with the snowflakes for Christmas Cards.

Also, perhaps an embossed envelope and then use a label to address so that the address is clear?

daisyboo 04-12-2008 09:07 AM

What a great idea! Too bad I didn't see this before I mailed off a card this am! You can bet my flaps will be embossed from now on!

Jennifer Styles 04-12-2008 09:36 AM

Those envelopes look great! Thanks for showing the pics!

MSBetsyZ 04-12-2008 09:48 AM

I love doing the flaps. I thought you were talking about doing the whole envelope. I would wonder about the machines being able to "read" the address if the whole thing was embossed...

caascher2 04-12-2008 10:43 AM

Great idea! Your cards look beautiful!
Carol

jor 04-12-2008 10:57 AM

My cuttlebug is relatively new to me, but I'm using it all the time! Just one more great idea! Thanks, ladies!

mg 04-12-2008 11:01 AM

Inside flap

You can just cut an insert flap, emboss that and glue it in like a liner. Very pretty.

K. Benko 04-12-2008 03:18 PM

Love this idea, all mine are getting embossed now, thanks
Kathy

kathat 04-12-2008 06:16 PM

What a cool idea!!!! I think I'm doing my flaps from now on :-)

MaryAnnK 04-12-2008 06:21 PM

Why didn't I think of that - it's a great idea. I'll be embossing flaps from now on.

Kheila Kirwan 04-12-2008 06:29 PM

I love doing the flaps.....it gives the envelope such an elegant look! Definitely a WOW factor.

Tamburasi 04-12-2008 06:41 PM

GORGEOUS!!! Those cards and envies look amazing. I got a rain check for the 50% off cuttlebug at Mike's yesterday and now I REALLY want it to arrive soon :)

OakvilleMom 04-12-2008 06:56 PM

BRILLIANT!!!

ebeart 04-12-2008 07:02 PM

VERY cool!

wendalyn 04-12-2008 08:39 PM

I don't see why would change the price of the stamp because you arn't making it thicker than 1/4 inch or changing the size of the card and it would still go thru there machine. I would stick with the .41c stamp for just embossing. Great idea btw i gotta try that

kavitamahadeo 04-12-2008 09:30 PM

Ladies you can also put a strip of Tape on the stamp t keep it in place...TFS all the info

FYI You can't cover postage with tape in Canada

Paia Paperworks 04-12-2008 11:42 PM

What a fantastic idea! This just might be the boost I need to get back in my craft groove. Thanks! -Jennifer

wendalyn 04-13-2008 01:14 AM

You can't cover stamps with tape in the US either. I've gotten mail back before for accidently covering it while tape an envelope or box. They are very picky.

Jan M. 04-13-2008 03:26 AM

INGENIOUS! From now on all my flaps will be embossed too.

Susie1967 04-13-2008 03:41 AM

Wow, I think I will look into this cuttlebug machine. Is it very expensive?

You can get them for as low as $ 35.00. It depends on where you buy the Bug.
Once you start buying the embossing folders and dies it gets kind of addicting, so be aware;) :D

Susie1967 04-13-2008 04:09 AM

That is exactly what I thought....kind of addicting!! So, all of you seasoned Bug owners, where do you suggest I start to own a Bug myself? My Michaels doesn't have an add this week.

MaryAnnK 04-13-2008 04:54 AM

I got mine at Joanns with a 40% coupon. I've been accumulating one embossing folder or die per week with a coupon from either Joanns, Michaels or AC Moore. The folders are only $4.99 - $5.99, so those aren't bad. The dies cost more, so definitely save them for days you have coupons.

Michael's has a 20% off your entire purchases this week - so probably not great if you were just getting the one off purchase but for a big spree it would be pretty good.;)

Back on top - loved the embossed envelopes! so very elegant:D

If you have AC Moore near you, you can get a 40% coupon (for regular priced items) from their website. Go to www.acmoore.com and click the Store Locator & Coupons tab at the bottom of the screen. Enter your zip code on the locator screen. There's a coupon link next to each store it finds near you.
