Embellishments -- help me!
I need something new in the world of embellishments for cards and scrapbook pages. I am so over:
clothespins
pom poms
banners
baker's twine
seam binding
washi tape (love it but have too much!)
sequins
buttons
pearls
rhinestones
burlap
Give me somethings that are edgier, metal, natural that's not burlap and somethings I haven't seen before!

Try the jewelry supply area at the craft store. There are lots of fun charms and other items that can be "re-purposed" as embellishments. The floral department can have possibilities too.

Check out bead shops for interesting charms
Look at what people are using for collage/mixed media. Tim Holtz, Melissa Francis, and so many others have metal, wood, and other materials.
IMHO - you might want to step outside of your comfort zone and look at blogs and galleries where you might not ordinarily go. Recently I stared subscribing to Somerset Mixed Media and Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazines. Their style of paper crafting is not to my tastes but they give me great ideas for stepping outside my normal crafting box and they have great shops that I haven't looked at before.

I have used smooth bark, tiny shells, sand, birch "skin", feathers, cork, pressed leaves.....but I love my pearls and rhinestones, too!

I dont see metal there. You can emboss it with folders and do stuff to it. I saw some examples in top cards of 2014.
I dont see eyelets. That isnt new but I like them on masculine cards.
I also dont see ribbon? I have been seeing some very attractive weaves with strips of ribbon lately. You could also cut slits in a piece of fabric, weave ribbon through it and use that as a layer.

Get a roll of metal tape (in the hardware section) that's meant for dryer hoses. You can emboss it, distress it, stamp on it, crimp it - and if you have a metal alphabet stamping set, you can even make your own sentiments for cards. If you live near a Harbor Freight, the alphabets are really cheap. Cut a length of tape into strips and use them as a picture frame on one of your pages.
Get a length of muslin: gather circles to make flowers; tear in strips and make bows; stamp on it; use it as a mat behind a photo.
Go to a hardware store - I get plenty of inspiration there. Get some tiny metal washers, paint chip cards, tiny nails (brads). Get some window screen, dry wall tape (this stuff is great embossed with different colors of embossing powder).
Get some strips of balsa wood, and if you have a Big Shot or similar machine, you can cut shapes out of it with your dies.
Go to an electrical store and get some copper tape. Get some leather cording. And get a set of leather punches, there are 6-8 in a pack, each will punch out a different size (you don't have to use them on leather!) My husband got me a set of the punches at a tool show he went to - I love them. For example, I used one to punch holes around a heart, then layered another heart behind the first one.
Hope these ideas help!
