Default Easter cards for troops and quick update

I am now collecting EASTER cards for the troops...we have one group at a FOB that has no real cards( the soldiers say there are three choices but none are really anything you want to send) to mail home and they are overjoyed with the boxes of cards they have been getting... Our last box of cards led to responses like the below message from my one adopteed soldier:

Sue-
Got the package today. It was wonderful!! (My first one in Balad) So far I have gotten 1 letter and your package, so I'm very excited. It is a good day. The cards were great. We got this new Lt. in today and she is very religious. I was teasing her with chocolate because she gave it up for Lent. (She will never make---I will make sure of it!!! LOL--I'm just kidding!!!) I asked in the office if people needed cards and she about tackled me getting to my cards. They are GREAT cards. I like them because no two are alike. Here at the PX they sell cards, but people at home can sometimes tell where you are at by what cards you send. (The selection is non-existent!!) When people back home show them to someone it's like, "Oh your husband must be in Balad--Cathy's husband sent her the same card!!" (it's kind of funny.) My wife has gotten the same card a couple times, but she doesn't have to worry about that anymore!!!!!! Tell the kids thank you for the cards as well. They are cute.
We haven't been mortared in a few days. I don't know what's wrong. Maybe they have given up!!! lol Anyway, I better get back to work.

Bruce

PS--Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!!!

So I think you can see the rsponse is wonderful....If you would like to join our effort please email me at
[email protected] or you can send your Easter cards for the troops to me at
Sue Salsburg

Navarre Oh 44662

the Easter cards need to be here by the end of March and the mother's day ones by the end of APRIL...it truly is an honor to be able to send cards to these brave men and women serving in Iraq and know they they are sending them on to another most deserving group of people their loved ones who are at home sacrificing here. Please make sure to send your name and email address with you cards to so I can add you to our updates as we hear from the soldiers...we started this last mothers day and by this year we will have mailed over 10,000 cards to our troops so THANK YOU to everyone from the guys and gals in the sand...

Thanks for posting this Sue. I have an old thread stuck to my craftroom wall. Now to find the time to put some things together for you and the troops. The letter is wonderful and heartwarming. It always amazes me how something so simple can bring so much joy.

Thanks again for doing this. I'll get in gear this weekend.

Sue,
So glad to see this thread revived! I've been down with a nasty flu bug for two weeks and am now feeling somewhat normal -- those cards I had set aside to send to you will go out this week, finally!

Now for another question - is it OK that the cards I'm sending aren't Easter or Mother's Day cards? I have lots of thinking of you and general cards and birthday cards in my pile....I guess if they don't work for the box you're trying to fill, you'll put them in the next box.

Anyway, just wanted you to know I hadn't wimped out on you,I was just too under-the-weather to get the cards finished. At least by having waited, I won't be sending my germs to you!

I am putting some in a package now! And I'm putting your address on my bulletin board. I'm so happy to know that the Christian cards are acceptable.

Default THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really can not express how much your support of this project means to the men and women in IRAQ... I know you will be blessed by this porject in the same way i have been....as for types of cards....the answer is ANY!!! Last year I got some spanish cards and wrote a quick note out to all of the soldiers and sure enough there was a unit there would could use those acrds and they were so excited to have them.....think of us as the Hallmark store for the TROOPS!! The only kind of card I will not send over is sympathy cards--- Ihave some here and each soldier knows if they are needed let me know but they have to deal with death on such a intense level that those cards are hard to have sitting there and so many of the blank cards we make could be used if that type card is needed....Hope that makes sense but somehow I see a box of cards disappearing and soldier X gets to the box and the only card is a sympathy one....
I wish I could give you each a hug and thank you in person but as I tell the soldiers these acrds come from across AMERICA and that means the world to them as well!!!!
if you need anything just email me at the hotmail acct it is always up and running as that is my link to "my guys and girls in Iraq" ---by the way KIDS acrds are a HUGE HIT with Dad's and Grandpas serving....

again THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you are all the best

I never would have thought of sending these cards - I'm glad you mentioned it!

I have a big rubbermaid box of nice store bought cards that were purchased before I started stamping. Of course, I won't use them now because I make my cards, so there they sit unused. I'll fill the rest of my box with these beauties so it will be nice and full (much better than using foam peanuts)!

Default cards they have

I have asked the one soldier to go and get me a sample card---think we will all be interested in what our competition is>>>>NOT that we do not blow those cards out of the water but think it would be nice to see what they supply our guys with as far as choices....

Thanks again

Do you have any requests about how the cards are packaged? I saw one thread where they were to be placed in individual Ziploc sandwich bags to both protect the cards and to make it easier for the troops to look through them. Would you like that, too?

And thanks for mentioning the use for storebought cards-- I know I have some of those in my "give-away" box.

Default NO ziplock bags

No ziplock bags needed---- it is lot of work for you and the guys like them out better---
I box them so they are protected ---my guys say they like them better that way so when looking through they can see what is inside as well...

thanks to evreyone who is joining...the box that was mailed yesterday was the box that contained the 10,000 card since mOther's day of last year! That is awesome~~ I know we helped many a soldier stay in touch with his loved ones...and we will never know how many hearts we have touched but that is OK! I know the" guys and gals in the sand " feel the love these cards bring tot hem and I am sure their families and loved ones to too!

Please remember to include your email address with each shipment so I can let you know it arrived and keep you updated on news from the soldiers.

Hi Sue,

I got a full box of cards out today from Novell and I. I sent them priority mail so hopefully you should have them Wednesday or Thursday. Forgot to include my e-mail address though.
Blessings,

Just a gentle bump to the top....

And a little reminder, as Sue probably won't mention it very often - it might be nice to enclose a little $$ to help with postage and goodies she also sends.

Sue,
Another modest sized box of cards headed your way today -- I went to see a DF last night and she handed me a bunch of cards she had made for the troops and asked if I would mail them to you....it definitely pays to tell other people what you've been working on!

I do have a question for you, by what date do you need to have Easter cards in your hands in order for the guys and gals to get them and use them? DF asked me and I didn't have the answer and I told her I would find out -- I'll watch the thread for your reply...

Sue,

I'm making little memo books, one style a child's coloring book...the other style could be sent back home to a Mom for Mother's Day...(notepad sort of thing, no coloring pages...LOL)...

I will get these in the mail to you by tomorrow at the latest...and I will send them priority. I will not put "happy Easter or Happy Mother's Day" on them...that way they can be sent whenever...

Take care, God bless...and thanks for all you are doing!

Teena

PS...the weight of these items will NOT be any more than a regular card would be...

And I will try my best to make a few cards too...

Default cards dates

Easter cards I need by the end of the month as they take upwards of a week to 1 1/2 weeks to reach our guys....they only get mail a couple of times per week...mothers day by the end of April....we have our cards in one FOB's PX as freebies and my soldier said you should see the guys they are like kids in a candy shop....she is hoping to get me some pictures...How cool is that --there are over 3000 soldiers at that FOB but we have mailed over about 1500 cards to them already...and they are very excited ---they are running an article in the FOB paper about the free cards..it is wonderful to know they are there for anyone!

Your story brought tears to my eyes...I must go make some more cards.

If there are 3000 soldiers at this one FOB and they had to split 1500 cards among them, we need to kick up production on this end because by my math, they are desperately in need of more cards. Let's get to work and make some more smiles in the desert!

Sue:

I'll get some cards together for you. Don't know if they'll be Easter-realted or not, but I will get some in the mail. Some of the cards I have made, I won't send out because they are just not what I want.

My dh just got back from Balad on Jan 22. He said the same thing about the bleak card selection. He wasn't there that long, but he was still there. My cousin is due back from Baghdad in April. I sent him a whole bunch of cards a friend gave me.

Default thanks to all

Thought you would all like to know I heard from one of the guys today and he said his boxes have become a rallying point...they sit around and visit while they look at the cards and split them up...kind of cool!!!

thanks to all

Sue,

I'm not going to get the cards in the mail today as I said I would...not enough time to stamp and do everything else...but I will try my best to get some of the memopad books out by tomorrow at least... Then I will send Mother's Day cards in the very near future... I think it is just too late for me to get in on the Easter cards this time...

Thanks!

Default Update

I wanted you all to know that we are now the official "hallmark" store for the one FOB...the cards we are mailing to them are all being put into the PX for every soldier to pick from for FREE....HOW COOL IS THAT! I mailed another box today making the 7th box all of which have had about 250-300 cards..so we are doing a great job of stocking cards for these brave men and women...it is such an honor to be able to give something they love so much to these men and women and their families...the kids Easter cards are so incredible...a BIG THANKS to all.....keep them coming and God Bless each of you for helping!!! We have also send boxes with goodies to several other units throughout Iraq...

Blessing to all

Time to bump this to the top again!

Sue, also wanted you to know I sent a box of cards by Express Mail - you should have them tomorrow afternoon (Thurs)....hope this makes it to you in time to be included the box you are sending out for Easter because it has 120 cards from the Easter Bunny and 10 misc.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a flawless mail delivery!

My books are almost done...I will just be sending you SOMETHING by Saturday at the lastest. I don't expect them to be sent with the Easter stuff...It was just too much for me to get it together because my Aunt died last week and EVERYthing has been in slow motion since then...

Take care, God bless!

Teena

PS--I KNOW you will love the little booklets...
...and they will too.

Sent a package of cards off to you in today's mail. You should have them by the weekend.

I'm happy to see your thread again. I have some cards ready, but couldn't find the thread to send them to you. Geeze. I think I've lost it. I tried searching for Easter cards and didn't have luck. I'll get some sent to you this week. Won't make it for Easter, but at least they'll get some.
