Question Dyeing ribbon with ink pad

I tried dying white grosgrain and organdy ribbon by running it over an ink pad and also using a dauber, but the ink won't dry and it's been 2 days. I tried rubbing off the excess with a paper towel, but it remains wet and continues to rub off. Anyone had success with this or have advice to give me that will make it dry? Is it not drying because it is polyester or nylon and not a natural fiber?

You might want to try to heat set it! with a Embossing Heat gun.

I tried dying ribbon with an ink pad also, but I had the same problem as you, even after heat setting. Anyway, I posted a thread a while back asking how to dye ribbon, and everyone said use a reinker in a small bowl with a tiny bit of water. This works AWESOME! Someone has a blog that has wonderul directions for doing this. If I can find the link, I will post it here.

If you do NOT have re-inker in the color you want and if you need to do only a tiny piece of ribbon (maybe 5 inches long) try this....
Squish a stamp pad several times against the bottom of a clear stamp-set box. Spray the box with water until you get enough to make a little puddle (maybe a teaspoonful). Now wet the piece of ribbon.
It's rather a nuisance, but saves the cost of getting re-inkers that you may not need.

Organdy doesn't take well to the ink pad method of dyeing -- as you discovered, it just won't dry! Grosgrain eventually will, but it takes forever even after hitting it with the heat gun to set the ink. Also, this method does not work well for the long term on grosgrain ribbon. As the ink soaks to the center of the ribbon, the outside surface is left looking faded and awful.

AmyR's blog is the source for the fabulous reinker dyeing instructions. That's the only method I'll ever use now!
