Default DVD and Card Kit in the mail

I was away for about 7 days and returned home to a pile of mail. In sorting through it, I came across this DVD and card kit that I'd not ordered. Glanced over it quickly and thought the letter said something about being a good customer and Paper Crafts Magazine ( I think). Thought cool...a freebie! I was inundated and did not pay all that much attention to it. Anyhow a friend received the same mailing and said that the company said you could keep the card kit but had to return the DVD or you'd be billed for it. Since when? I thought it was illegal to resort to such marketing tactics. Can't see why the individual customer should have to pay return postage on something they did not order and never agreed to. Anyone else get a mailing like this? Did my friend read the fine print wrong? Was it from Paper Crafts?

You won't be billed for it. They want you to return it if you won't be buying the rest. Keep it if you want (I did) but if you get a bill just shoot them an email or call and say you won't be paying for it. It is illegal and they know that. Don't sweat it!

Read a similar thread that CK did the same kind of promotion. Wonder if they make much profit given that they are basically sending freebies to their whole mailing list. I think I'll just write "pound salt" on their invoice.

Here's a link to another thread about this: http://splitcoaststampers.com/forums...d.php?t=154597.

It is the same DVD. I'm looking at the back of mine right now and it has Creating Keepsakes, Paper Crafts & Simple Scrapbooks logos on it. You only have to pay for it if you keep it AND want to receive more. Otherwise how can they prove you received it? Unless they have someone undercover on here.....hmm.....just teasing.

I'm glad you posted this! I got the same thing and stuck it who knows where because it was in my "vacation" mail...then as I shredded something else from them, I thought it said it "bill" for it! oops!

I'd read in some other thread too that for US mail if you were sent something unsolicited, they can neither require payment nor return of the item. Now, in good conscience, if I didn't want it, I'd send it back.

I received one too.... last week. I couldn't get the DVD to open without installing something that my computer had warnings about, so I'll send it back. Look on the BACK of the letter included and there is a postage paid return label to stick on the box. Note that you must return it in the box it came in... if you're like me, you'll have to use some tape to get it back together... it wasn't a very sturdy box and there wasn't any warnings to be careful in opening it... Be sure to write CANCEL on it or they'll keep sending them to you....

The dvd's are the least of their expense. The packet that I got last year came with a couple of hardware bits, ribbon, tags, etc. Those must add up, I would think! I just really dislike this marketing tactic.

I agree, I got the same thing from CK. I looked at the .pdfs and wasn't impressed, plus I already have the font that's on the DVD. It won't run in my drive, so I really don't want to keep something around that'll just be clutter. It really sucks that they do this!

I got mine yesterday in the mail. I haven't looked at it yet.

I did like the card kit that they sent with it.
I don't know if I am going to keep the DVD or not.
I'm not a scrapper. So I don't know if this would be worth it for me.

I like the fact that they sent a return postage along with the DVD. Most companies don't do that.

Question future cost

Here is my question -- in your paperwork that came with the DVD does it say what the cost of future DVDs will be????

I could not find this information anywhere. I finally emailed them. $19.91 + $4.95 S&H. Now why wouldn't they put this info in the literature? Hmmm, probably because nutcases like me thought maybe all the DVDs would be $7 each. Silly me.

All the paper say is:
"I'm keeping Creative Tips, Tech, and Solutions and have enclosed my payment of $7.00.
I'd also like to preview other selcection in The Essenital Scrapbook video Collection, every 2-3 months. at the REGULAR Subsciber Price plus shipping and handling."

So I take it that they will cost more that the first DVD because the $7.00 is a introduction price.

No other price mentioned in the paper work at all.

I got the same dvd today. Now my question is do I have to go to the post office to return it or can I just give it too the mailman. It would be such an inconvience to have to make a trip for something I didn't order.

I received it also. I thought it was tacky, of CK. I haven't checked out the DVD, but the part about returning it! Like I would pay to return something I didn't order. I'm glad everyone else felt the same way about it.
