Drywall Tape
Can anyone tell me what Drywall Tape is the best to use? I just got a roll of the Fiberglass Drywall Tape, but somewhere I think I read that you should not use this kind.
Thank you |
I just bought "drywall tape" at Wal-Mart. It doesn't seem to have fiberglass in it - I got rid of the label weeks ago. It works great and I'm actually pretty sure that's what Magic Mesh really is. I was so glad when I found the information about drywall tape on this site, because it is so inexpensive!!

what do you do with it? DTP on the tape?
|
You'll want to be careful using it in scrapbooks. I would assume drywall tape isn't archival quality.
You can do anything to it you would Magic Mesh. Pour glitter on the sticky side and use brads to adhere to a card, DTP as azure722 said, just add it to a card for some texture, weave wire through the mesh, whatever you think of. Be careful if you try to emboss on it--I don't know if it would get melty. |
dry wall
I rub my ink on it for color. Works great.

Mine is from Home Depot. It is Quik Tape. It is 100% Fiberglass Mesh so I'm not sure but mt demo told me about it. 300 feet in a role and very cheap!

Paint it with the Making Memories paint!

I run my inked brayer over it to change the color. I do not know what kind it is. It is left over from building our house 4 yrs ago :) I just used some on my FIL's father day card:

fiberglass
I always heard to stay away from fiberglass because the pieces are not good for you.

I've used it in the past but it doesn't even compare to the quality of SU Magic Mesh.

Here is a link to what I bought. The regular "magic mesh" was purchased at a Home Depot, the "dottie" was from Lowe's

Magic Mesh is drywall tape. Just found an article about it here: http://www.startribune.com/stories/539/5181504.html
"An excerpt: It should come as no surprise that in just six years she has transformed some gussied-up drywall mesh tape into a classy, million-dollar product used as an embellishment by the burgeoning scrapbooking market, as well as by card-making hobbyists known as "rubber-stampers." Smith is founder of Magic Mesh LLC, which sells its mesh in more than 60 combinations of color, weave and width. The product carries a pressure-sensitive adhesive that allows users to apply and reapply it as their creative whims dictate." I use my stamp pads to alter the color but am tickled to see someone else used paint. Will give it a try. Rainsong |
Is the dry wall tape sticky on one side?
|
Yes, it is.

I think the brand I have is Duck.. but the label is long gone so not sure. I haven't tried ink with it much, I generally paint it with acrylic paint. You can get paint at Wal-Mart (in the craft section) for 25 cents a bottle, depending on what brand. I've always used the cheapest brand and never had any problems with it. I got the tape at Wal-Mart, I think its the only brand of the stuff they carry.

Drywall tape
I have some of my DH's drywall tape that I stole from the garage. I love to emboss it! The metallic look is way cool!~~~Adair

Emboss it it's great. If I was using it for scrapbooks I would stick to magic mesh. But for cards it's great.
