I saw this on clearance and I remember some discussion about it, but of course can't remember what it was all about. I"m wondering if anyone remembers or knows what to do with these - should I go back and get it?
My thanks,
karen
Karen - as to whether you should go back and get it, I'm the wrong one to ask. I saw them on clearance and picked up 2 more, even though I hadn't yet used the one I already had. Darned clearance stickers; they call to me!
What they are for: Ranger also makes Craft Nibs (I think that's what they're called) - they look like replacement tips for felt-tip markers. They made the nibs before the holders, I think, and people just used them by holding them in their fingers. They work kind of like a blender pen, in that you use them to pick up ink and color with it. The nibs work really well with alcohol ink; I think they'll work with distress ink as well, but that I haven't tried. The nib holder you're seeing is just a handle that the nibs fit into to make them easier to use. The nibs themselves I'd already played around with, before I got the holders. I knew I liked the nibs, and had tried to McGyver a holder of my own with little success, so I figured the clearance ones were a good bargain.

They do work just fine with Distress inks. They're known as Cut n Dry nibs as well as Craft Nibs (you can see them here on the Ranger site).
Unlike Cheryl, I had success without buying the holder - I got a package of those "pop-a-point" pencils at my local 1 shop. The outers of those are perfect for holding the nibs and you get 10 in a pack. I have no idea how much the holders sell for but it may well be worth a look in your dollar store if you fancy the idea of the nibs but want a thrifty way to hold them.
So do u color with the nibs? Like put ink on a craft mat and just pick it up with the nib? Like u are making a marker.
Yes, just pick up ink and colour with the nib. You can rub the nib directly on the surface of the ink pad, you don't need reinkers or anything. I found a video of Tim doing photo tinting so you can see the nibs in action. I've used them to colour stamped images in a similar way.
That's great, Joanne, Thank you for the link, and thank you all for the information. I do think I saw a reference to these nibs in a thread somewhere, but this at least gives me a clue!

I tried those pop-a-point pencils, but the ones I could find were too big for the nib - it just slid all the way thru to the back side The Ranger holders were a much better size - I did try popping a nib in one to see how it fit. Now I just need to get to coloring.
I didn't know there was a holder for them? That's great!! I use them for stamping scenes on glossy paper all the time, just roll the tip on the ink pad and you have a little applicator for small areas such as barns or houses etc. Thanks for the info.
