the bottom of the Del Monte fruit cup containers !!!
They are the silver looking plates that would lay flush against the wall the pipe goes through. It has a tiny hole in the center that is easily covered. I was having such a darned time trying to keep the original bottom on with crystal effects that my husband came up with this ingenious idea.
I wish I could but I don't have a scanner !!! Arrrrgg!!
Actually...
I was so desperate last night because I was having a birthday brunch for 2 of my friends today and the little containers were part of my table arrangement... that at first I thought the plumbing gizmo's were these great and wonderful miraculous answers to my dilemma. The more I played with them I decided maybe it wasn't that great big of a deal after all. They fit perfectly but they are a little rounded and not totally flat like the bottom of the tin would normally be. After messin around and trying several other options we finally used a piece of wood. I would recommend that, or corrigated cardboard might work too, over the plumbing fixture. It would be more cost effective too.
I don't remember where this was posted originally on this site but here is what I learned from it...
Cut the bottom out of a DelMonte Fruit cup, empty, clean, dry and fill it back up with candy, a little stamp or anything you want. Then they said to glue the bottom back on again with crystal effects. I could not get mine back on for the life of me...thus the plumbing tool idea that eventually cut scraped ( no pun intendede !!! ) I ended up using wood. I want to try corrigated cardboard as it would be easier then the wood. Then you decorate the outside and have a tiny little favor type gift !!
Ahhhh, this seems so wordy !!!! Does it make sense!?! :? or are you all still confused ????
Let me know and I'll try to find the original post for you.
Oh and check in the gallery. I know there are some examples posted in there. It might be easier just to see a picture of one completed.
The key to getting the bottom back on is to use those safety can openers...they cut the whole top not just the inside of the lid. If you use one of those to open the can then glueing it back on is a breeze.
To save my life, I couldn't understand what you were talking about . . .
Then, did as you suggested and searched the gallery for "fruit cups".
GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Certainly one of the most ingenious ideas I've stumbled across and TFS!!!! I have one of those nifty cutters and have used it for quite some time . . . if only, however, I'd ever thought to cut the bottom instead and recycle the container . . . waaaaaaah!
Oh well, I think my son is gonna be eating LOTS of fruit cups very soon . . . . . .

OMG! These could be used for the "Book to Look" thing! All the ladies get one at the workshop, as you tell them about the hostess bennies, and the free stuff they get in the cans, they book a wkshp & get to pop the top!
I was reading where one gal filled one with a stamp & gave to her hostess, then I thought it would be a great idea to put booking incentives in them!
fun2stamp...thanks for the tip on the safety opener...have no clue what they are but I'll be hunting for them when I shop. Sure sounds like a much easier way to go !!!
OK I looked through the gallery. I figure it out. I couldn't figure out what in the world you girls were talking about this morning. I seriously thought you were trying to fix some sort of plumbing problem. DUH!
Thanks for all the directions girls. Will definitely be trying these!

I haven't tried this yet but will soon...a friend of mine who is a Pampered Chef consultant said that if you open the bottom of the can with their can opener, you can pop the bottom back on after you fill the can. We are talking about doing a joint event. I told her about the fruit cup idea with CE, and she said we might be able to just use the can opener. Then we would decorate of course with SU stuff. I'll let you all know when I try this out.
So if I was paying attention, when someone gets this awesomely CUTE gift, they pop the top open to get the goodies, right??? Thats why we are cutting the bottom off , to empty the fruit stuff, wash and clean and fill with goodies and glue the bottom on(inhaling now!!). Is that how it works??(im a dork!!)
Thanks!
Tandra
OMGosh! What a great idea. At first, I was thinking why cut the bottom off when you had the top open in the first place until I went to the gallery. I love it!!
Oh, this is a cute idea! Yes, Pampered Chef sells a can opener called "Smooth Edge Can Opener'. I'm a PC consultant & this opener is one of my top sellers (and frequently used items). I don't even use my electric one anymore. But, I had never thought of using it for this kind of project! I'll be opening cans, soon, I imagine!
Off to Target today!!! Got to get a new canopener!! My craft room is looking more like a kitchen,,Toaster oven, iron, waxpaper, aluminum,
etc..... Guess I will have to make dinner out of cans tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took a can of corn and opened the bottom yesterday. I then filled the can with some lotto tickets, a coin to scratch the tickets, a package of gum, some tic tacs and a pair of socks. I opened the can from the bottom and used crystal effects to put it back on. When I gave it to my friend for her birthday she LOVED it. She ran to the kitchen to get the opener and you know what she did - she opened the bottom instead of the top so she could use it again
I was so proud!!!

Who comes up with these ideas???????? My friends already think I'm insane when I show them all the neat things that I have learned from this site. I will definitely be trying these fruit cups. As a matter of fact, I better get off here and hit the grocery store to buy some and play with them. I foresee fruit for breakfast, lunch and dinner at my house this week
Okay, now that my neighbors think I'm drunk having witnessed me dump my last two boxes of kitchen stuff all over looking for my safety opener, which I couldn't find but will buy, what size cans? Is it the snack size or the next size up? That is the cutest idea.
I may have to quit this site, all these wonderful ideas are going to break me
I use the little snack Del Monte ones. They are about 2 inches in height and each one is 4oz. I know they come in 4 packs and in cases, not sure if anything inbetween those sizes.
The Tupperware $30 can opener will also work perfectly for these cans. You will be able to re-attach the bottom & you would never know it was ever removed. This can opener was spendy but worth it!
This place is the GREATEST!! I go away for a couple of days and come back to find all this fabulous stuff to look at! It's like Christmas around here! Now, here's my dilemma - I don't want to be a demo any more - I just want to sit around all day trying out all the really cool ideas I see here!
OH MY GOODNESS!!! You guys ROCK!! I have GOT to go to Wally world today to get a safety can opener & some fruit & soup cans! These will make awesome teacher's gift holders for Christmas!
Would love to hear more ideas for fillers!
Thanks and I'll post my pics when I get them done!

some kind soul on another site clued us into coming into this thread.
I am so glad I stopped what I was doing. Right when you think that you had all the tools you needed for THE DAY....you guys come up with something else I have to get. Too Cool! Thanks. Janet in NC and off to the nearest Wally World.
I'm SOOOO glad you started this thread, confusing or not. We finally get it & it was well worth the extra words! I saw the original post & just skipped right by w/o reading & studying it....I thought it was just another mini pringles can. I can't wait to try it! Of course, NONE of my 4 babes would eat a fruit cup. Hope they sell them in a no-sugar syrup for me & my "sit & stamp hinny"!
HELP :!:
I went to Wally world and Kmart today and could not find one of those safety can openers that takes the whole top (or bottom) off the can!
WHERE can I buy one and HOW MUCH will it cost me?
I have got to try this!!
The whole way to the store this afternoon I was trying to come up with a good reason as to WHY we NEED another can opener. Not for me, but for my DH. Here's what I came up with..."Honey, our daughter is three now and she really likes helping me fix dinner. Now she can help with the can opener too!"
What'ya think?!

Ok, call me dense, does a safety can opener open a can with out leaveing sharp edges?
Not totally sure but from what I have been able to gather is that is cuts so clear that the lid doesn't get bumpy/ripplely !! so then it fits back in perfectly. This can opener is key to making this projects work without the frustration.
Still need to get one myself. Will let you know where I find it. If I can't find one in a local store I will be ordering one from Pampered Chef. An earlier post said they sell them.
A safety can opener cuts into the side of the can rather than the top leaving you with a clean cut and no sharp edges. I used to have one that I would open cat food with and you could use the opened portion as a lid for the leftover food. I'm bummed I had to go buy a new one, but glad I didn't pay $30 for it. I got it at Harris Teeter for only $9, probably could have saved going to Wally World, but didn't want to hassle that place.
Oh my goodness -- I saw this thread started and from the title subject - I thought "I don't need to look at that one 'cause I don't have plumbing problems". Well lo and behold - today I see that there are 3 pages to this thread and couldn't figure out why you guys were talking about plumbing so much -- it must be worth looking into. I'm SOOOO glad that I opened this up!! This idea is the cutest thing I have ever seen and I cannot believe that someone would actually think of doing this.
Just another reason that SCS is the best. My kiddos are going to start eating more fruit cups whether they like it or not!! Thank you so much for sharing !!!
