DON"T BUY THESE!!!!!!!

I was in a time crunch making bridal shower invitations for my cousins shower.....a little over 3 weeks away. Sh got engaged and announced the date as june 18th...hence the quick shower. Anyway....I did a cute design, planned to print the details on vellum & attach with eyelets...but short on time, so I go buy the eyelets at Joanne's....instead of SU. So, Joanne's has the color I needed, in their own new line(can't remember the name) 80 eyelets for 2.50. THEY ALL "EXPLODED" I am miserable, because they don't look like I wanted, since the eyelets look crappy, but my sister and I have to put them out with tomorrows mail so I had to just do what I could and get them out.

Moral of the story kids:

DON"T BUY JOANNE'S HOUSE BRAND EYELETS!!!!!!!

So sorry to hear about your troubles. I have tried the JoAnn's eyelets for personal projects and hated them so much that I threw them away!

Oh my! Sorry this happened to you but thanks for warning us about them.

The shank on JoAnn's Essentials eyelets is longer and thicker than SU's. I have MM eyelets, SU eyelets, and some I purchased off of QVC a long time ago. All of those are fine but those JA ones are very difficult to use. You have to bang the heck out of them to get them to set. Same with the heart shapes from Wal-Mart. I have them and use them occassionaly, but not often just for that reason. The only MM ones that I find difficult to use are the 1/16" size. Those things...only end up frustrating me.

I have used a few difffent eyelets but didn't like any of them so tried SU's and they seem to be the best out there!! just my opinion though.

Well as long as we're talking about things not to buy.....do not buy Target brand double stick tape. It is very thin, flimsy, and doesn't stick hardly at all. It is cheap but not worth even 1 penny in my opinion.

hmmm that is interesting. That's the only kind of eyelets I own right now. I've never had any problems with the eyelets from JoAnns. But at least I know to look out for it.

I am sorry to hear that this happened to you:( . They probably don't look that bad -- people probably won't even notice. I'm sure the invitations still look nice and your cousin will be very greatful and thankful that you did this for her.

I'm so sorry that happened to you, that's sucks big time......

thanks for the info, next time I'm at Joanne's I'll make sure to avoid that aisle ;)

Well, that really BITES, Judy :(. I've found in experimenting with different brands of eyelets, that the setter you use sometimes makes all the difference in the world. The only way I can get JoAnn's or Making Memories' eyelets to look nice is by using the MM setter because it "flowers" the backside of the eyelet. I have three different styles of eyelet setters and I've found that the cone-shaped setters like the one that came in my SU tool kit doesn't work well with them at all.

FWIW...I rank SU eyelets tops and Doodlebug I-Lets second. You don't have to beat the h*ll out of either of them :).

Steffani 04-27-2005 02:41 PM

I agree about the setter. The only setter I get to work for me is the flower one. It breaks the eyelet up into a flower pattern--MM I think. The others never set straight and I am too anal for it to be crumpled or crooked.
