Does this get to anyone else
When there is a thread about an important product/idea/project and the conversation drifts off into never/never land. They start talking about everything else except whats at hand. The thread ends up been 2000-3000 or more posts about nothing. There is chat lines on SCS isn't there. I guess I don't wish to waste my time reading all the posts just the info. Don't get me wrong I don't mind if you chat all day on the chat threads.

No, I think that's women for you. It's why we can go on and on with our girlfriends and my DH and his friends are all done with things to talk about in 15 minutes. I'm guilty of that kind of thing. I'll start talking to my husband about something and he'll say something that reminds me of something else, I get excited and before you know it.... He WILL say to me "And the connection between that and the original conversation is....?" So then I connect the dots for him.
Maybe you can search the thread for a word and it will show it in red, then you could just read those posts....

Guilty, too. I get into a "stream of consciousness" thing and can just end up anywhere sometimes.
I will try to stay on subject. Notice I said "try."

Have you by any chance been going thru the Cuttlebugitis thread? It became more of a 24 hour answer line, really. Still is. That's why we made the Cuttlebug FAQ. Much more straightforward.
What bothers me more is when people *purposely* change the topic because they don't like the original one. Against TOS, and very aggravating. But when there is just socializing on a thread, that doesn't really bother me.

It drives me nuts too because I really rely on SCS for info and then a cool thread will go haywire. But I do understand how it goes, but I TRY never to have it happen.

Wow, I must be reading the wrong threads, as I don't see this happening much at all on SCS. Except in the chatty threads where it should be happening . There are other discussion boards out there where this is a real problem, like almost every thread, and it does drive me nuts there.

My husband is currently reading "The Female Brain" because we have three girls and one lone boy. During lunch yesterday while the girls were yapping away non-stop, he told me that young girls, on average, speak 20,000 words a day while boys speak 7,000 a day.
Of course, this is totally not related to the original post! I am proving her point with every word!!! But, I can't help myself...I am obligated by virtue of my sex to "speak" a certain number of words each day!

I think thing go off in different directions because this is not a business site, just a site full of excited stampers. Things are bound to get "off topic" when people are excited about anything (especially new products to play with).

Nope, doesn't bother me a bit. I am also guilty as charged. We turned our thread about the Cricut into a fun thread where we are really getting to know each other, too. I love it. Not one of us have a problem with it and we are also the ones that share information with each other/everyone else. You can always do a thread search if you want to be more specific.

LOL - some threads DO go off topic that's for sure. When I am reading one that has several tangents to it other than the OP it reminds me of a yearly holiday party w/my girlfriends. There are about 6 of us to get together just before Christmas for some holiday cheer & my one friend always hosts it a her house. Her boyfriend moved in a few years ago & now he's an 'honorary' party guest (being the only guy). He found out the first year that all 6 of us can have about 5 conversations going on at the same time w/out really missing a beat. He was amazed & amused by us.

I've seen thread-jackers who take the thread off into a totally different direction, and also thread-killers who say something then the thread just drops to nowhere! Doesn't bother me too much. If I really want more technical info, I just start my own thread again and ask specific questions. That works for me!

I've heard the same thing about adults, too - that on average, women speak about 2/3 more words a day than men do. (I think there was a thread about this in the Current Events forum a few months ago.)
Of course, part of the reason for this phenomenon is that a woman will say something to a man, who will then look up at her blankly and ask either "What did you say?" or "Did you say something?", which forces the woman to repeat herself.
But I do try to keep things on topic when I post on the threads here.

There is one girl in my class that I always tease... I tell her she hit her word limit for the day during period 2, so she needs to keep quiet...
The other day she asked for a Jolly Rancher for her sore throat.. she then proceeded to state that she likes it when she loses her voice... I could NOT resist the opening, and told her that we love it when she loses her voice as well... she's a sweet kid, but she never shuts up!

Thanks girls for your input. Its funny we all love to chat and believe me I love to chat also. I guess when I see on an certain threads that have so much info - gals are saying how many posts have been on this thread or how many posts they have - is this a competition to see how many they can reach. I hope not....Back to Julie & Joan's threads about competition!!!

It bugs me, too. I'm glad this was posted. Sometimes it is hard to get the information you need. Well, the information you want. I like chit chat too - there are some very very clever people on here and I enjoy reading their remarks. There has to be some kind of balance.

If you can't find info, all you have to do is start a new thread. With so many chatty women around, it will be only moments before your question or request is answered!

okay did you hear the one that went...
a wife is speaking to her husband:
"honey, it says here in this article that women speak twice as many words as men each day... I wonder why that is? What do you think?"
man responds:
"what?"
wife replies:

some of think we are occasionally too funny not to share!
But yeah - let's try to stay on topic, we only have so many hours each day to devote to reading SCS!

OH GREAT! Now I have that song going in my head and it's all YOUR FAULT!
"Shiny happy people laughing
Meet me in the crowd
People people
Throw your love around
Love me love me
Take it into town
Happy happy
Put it in the ground
Where the flowers grow
Gold and silver shine
Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people laughing
Everyone around love them, love them
Put it in your hands
Take it take it
There's no time to cry
Happy happy
Put it in your heart
Where tomorrow shines
Gold and silver shine
Shiny happy people holding hands
Shiny happy people laughing"
