Default Tonic Help

Ok guys, I'm one of those in search of the perfect paper cutter. I know, it doesn't exist but I hope to get close. Based on a lot of positive comments on the Tonic I ordered one and got it about a week ago. Since then I've been playing and I have had nothing but trouble! I was cutting two sheets of whisper white cardstock and the edges frayed terribly. It looks awful. Also, I am having a hard time lining up the measurements since its on the top and doesn't come down on the edge where the paper goes. Do I just always have to stand? Any help is appreciated. Right now I'm considering returning it.

The most important thing to remember is to make sure you hold down the plastic guide on top of the paper before you lower the blade handle. It really makes all the difference. The tonic paper cutter is fabulous and once you master the cutting you will be very happy you bought it

It is all in how well you place the paper in the cutter and to make sure you have *firmly* held down the paper guide (the long clear piece).

Do not try to guide the arm, it follows it's own track and knows the way down, simply grasp the handle and push down in one fell swoop.

The Tonic is the best!

I find two things help with my Tonic....
*hold down that plastic guide
*be sure to pull the "handle" towards the cutter with each cut... it's how it sharpens the blade... my blade "handle" or arm seems a little loose and when I forget to pull it towards the cutter a little I get a less than perfect cut.

LOVE my Tonic cutter!!! We have a paper cutter at work and whenever I use it I'm always looking for the clear paper guide to hold down...it doesn't have one and it doesn't cut as well either!!

I bought a Tonic cutter from JoAnn's last month when it was on sale. I LOVE it!

Using the ruler guides does take some getting used to. But I'm learning. The key to straight cuts is to make sure the paper is flush against the top and holding down the plastic guide (as so many others have mentioned).

Kristen, I'm sorry about your frayed edges. I have never had a problem with this. And yes, I always stand up when I use my cutter.

I was going thru a couple of blades a month on my fiskars cutter, and love that the tonic is self sharpening. It will pay for itself within a few months.
