Karen99 02-10-2010 05:47 AM

I've only made 1, and it's been so long ago, I don't remember what I did to it!! Thanks for reminding me of these again, so I can make a few....I had actually forgotten about them!! Can you post a pic of yours?

bookmarks

Yes! I make them quite often for my kids class. I made some Halloween bookmarks using the Cuttlebug set Red Tag and that die included and the Stampin Up set "Batty for You". They turned out great! I gave them out with a little Halloween pencil attached that I bought at Target. Much fun!

I make bookmarks to sell at my craft sales. I use glossy cardstock and brayer it with Kaleidecolour inks then stamp a flouish on the front using black stazon. I emboss cardstock and attach to the back of the bookmark to give it more stiffness, (backing cardstock is in colour to match the front). Punch hole in the top and add fibers. I also take along a set of alpha stamps and my black stazon ink pad to the sale, so that if someone wants an initial added I can do that there.

I used to make a lot of regular bookmarks until I read about magnetic ones on SCS. Now I make magnetic bookmarks for my kids to give at Halloween and Valentines instead of candy since their schools have asked that candy not be given anymore.

The kids love them! Many of them kept their magnetic bookmarks all year, and when they weren't in a book they stuck them to the sides of their metal desks. I'm also going to give them to the members of my book club as a little gift.

I made a set of bookmarks for Santa Clause Inc. one year: http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/.../photo/1063298
Both sides are covered with clear adhesive vinyl, but next time I am going to try having them laminated.

Melinda, you should upload your bookmark to your gallery here so that we can see it. :)

gram2boyz 02-10-2010 08:12 AM

I used to make quite a few. I'd make them to match the card so the recipient would have a little something extra. I saw a neat idea for a detachable bookmark on a card. Must have been perforated. You might want to check under resources. Bookmarks are a great way to use up your scraps!

Glendelia 02-10-2010 08:14 AM

I have to go out for a little bit, but, when I return I will upload pics of my bookmarks so you can see what I am trying to describe.

Angelnorth 02-10-2010 09:12 AM

I blogged one a couple of days back (here) - I think a bookmark is nice kind of project when you fancy a change from a card and they can make great little gifts. Let us know where we can see yours, Melinda!

I made a card with a detachable bookmark that was perforated. It was something I learned at one of my SU! demos Make and Take evenings.

I love making bookmarks. They are great for using up scraps and odd bits of ribbon, etc. I also sell them at the farmers market along with cards and journals.

Glendelia 02-10-2010 11:47 AM

OK, I am back, here is the link to pics of my bookmarks as I described above.

I just designed a card with a bookmark for my SNOWED OUT stamp camp that was supposed to run last Saturday. Akkk. With a combined total of 52 inches, my guests will be all finished reading their books by the time we make the bookmarks!!!Ha.

...Anyway, it's a cute bookmark in a traditional style and we'll make it on the 20th (if we're dug out by then).
Heart of My Heart card
Heart of My Heart with bookmark detached

I also have done a corner bookmark style that's a bit different:
Asian Well Wishes

Then there's always the wonderful Clippie Bookmark:
So Sweet Clippies

after trying a magnetic book marker; they are the only ones I prefer, as they don't fall out, if you drop the book. So easy to make. Those leftover greetings cards that
we receive almost always have a interesting design to create a magnetic bookmarker from.

SophieLaFontaine 02-11-2010 05:55 AM

Okay, how do you guys make magnetic bookmarks?? Where do you get the magnets from?

The ones I've seen have been made with BasicGrey magnetic snaps.

I made bookmarks several years ago for my son's first grade class for Valentine's Day. Each one was personalized with the child's name and slipped into a bookmark sleeve purchased at clearbags.com. The teachers and kids loved them, and they stayed well protected in the sleeves.

creatingisfun 02-11-2010 09:23 AM

oh i love making bookmarks ;)
so fun and quick and friends love to get them.

taniwolf 02-11-2010 02:51 PM

i have to make some more bookmarks.

stampencamper 02-11-2010 03:02 PM

this site shows how to make the interior of the bookmarkers so they adhere to the page.
If I remember right, you had to have the bookmarkers, so they are slightly off kilter
when adhering them on each side, and the magnet does not have to be as wide as the
bookmarker, an inch on each inside of marker will do.
http://craftbox.blogspot.com/2007/08...bookmarks.html
they are much cuter stamped

PurplePeopleEater 02-11-2010 03:21 PM

Just wanted to add a link for Michelle's blog and these cute bookmarks.Nice way to use up some bigger scraps of paper.

meluvstampin 02-11-2010 03:27 PM

You can magnet strips and sheets pretty cheap at Michaels, walmart & joannes

bobkitten 02-11-2010 06:38 PM

Making bookmarks and valentines for my 4th grade students is what got me into stamping 5 1/2 years ago!

antiquestamper 02-12-2010 04:50 AM

For the magnetic bookmarks I use magnetic sheets that come in a package and are thin enough to be run through some printers. I buy them at Hobby Lobby. They are thin enough that I used my ancient Fiskars rotary cutter to cut them without a problem. Now I use my Tonic paper cutter and that works well also.

genescrapper 02-12-2010 06:29 AM

Here's some of the magnet bookmarks that I made a couple of years ago!!

I really like making bookmarks. There is one in the new Occasions Mini that is really cute. Very adaptable also to any design you like. I made a couple for my daughter's boyfriend's daughter(confusing?). They were fun and easy.

griperang 02-15-2010 03:54 PM

I also like to make bookmarks. I collect bookmarks and have an obesession with them. I have participated in some swaps on different sites even. I just have fun with them.

SU Shopaholic 02-15-2010 04:43 PM

Bookmarks...

Mine aren't magnetic or fancy but I give a lot of books as gifts and I ALWAYS make a bookmark to go with them. Will have to try making it part of the card. Love that idea. I don't have any pics of the ones I've made but they're very basic - cardstock/heat embossing only...

she's_crafty 02-15-2010 04:48 PM

Bookmarks are awesome because you can make them from scraps!!!! They can be as wide as you like. I use my SU slot punch for the top and finish the top off with ribbon scraps too!!! Awesome awesome.....hmmm.....just realized that I'm currently reading and folding over pages to mark my spot.....I guess it's kind of how the shoemaker's kids don't have any shoes??? Hmmmm, must rectify this at once....the bookmark...not the shoes!!!

MSBetsyZ 02-15-2010 06:21 PM

I think bookmarks are such a special little gift. I remember making one for my late SIL many years ago, which I'd laminated to help make it sturdy. After she died and we were sorting through her things, there it was...she'd still been using it years later. It's a nice message that lets the recipient know you're thinking of them, and they'll be thinking of you, too, when they come across the bookmarked spot.

I've made all sorts of styles of bookmarks, but I think my favorite kind is the magnetic, fold-over kind that has a small image that sticks up from the top of the book. Hmmm, hard to explain really, but you fold your bookmark first and then stamp your image so it's half below the crease and half above it. Then use a craft knife to cut around just the portion above the crease. When you fold the bookmark over the page and set it so the fold rests on top of the page, the little image, sits up above. It's way cute...

Hi Sarah, I have a Fiskars trimmer that I can use different blades on so I just popped in my perforating blade.

griperang 02-16-2010 04:42 AM

Thanks for the tip on how to do the card with bookmark attached. I am going to try that.

Most of mine are just the regular sized bookmarks but I have made the corner ones too. I have not done a magnetic one yet. I have over 400 bookmarks in my collection - so I own all kinds.

Sheena74 02-16-2010 08:20 AM

I have been making book marks for about 1 year, I enjoy making them then I laminate then put a hole at the top and string either ribbon or twine thru (whichever goes best with the card). They are such quick projects that any book lover would love to have.
