Question Do you want to see non-stamped items on SCS?

Hello my dear SCS friends!

So, I have been around the SCS community for a few years now and usually have a pretty good feel for what members are interested in and what they are not. But this question has me stumped.

I am primarily a stamper, but I am also a papercrafter. From time to time a design I have created, ends up with no stamping. This has become even more common as chipboard and patterned paper have become more popular with SU! I don't create in a vacuum so to speak and have a great love for lots of products.

Today I created a card with no stamping, but I stopped myself from uploading it to my gallery. I wondered if people come here just to see stamped items and would be annoyed with the upload OR would the design and layout be inspiration that they might appreciate and be able to adapt to their project?

So you tell me SCS'ers. Is it helpful or just adding to the gallery clutter?

Lisa if it's from you I'm sure it will inspire a lot of people! I don't mind if there's no stamping. Sometimes the embellishments are enough. You can create things with just background paper and embellishments (especially all the new chipboard). I say upload it baby!

I like lots of the altered things shown on SCS, most of which don't have any stamping, like the lunchbox tins. I would love to see you stuff.

I say, "Let's see it!". There are so many wonderful products out there these days for stampers and scrappers, and it's great to see all the brilliant ideas people have for using them.

Another vote for "Let's see it". I tend to do more work with patterned papers, than stamps, and love it when others share their work.

I concur. Wasn't it you that had the adorable little paisley and jewels? There was stamping on there, but other things caught my eye. I think it would be fun to see it. How about posting a link here so we don't miss it?

Now I want to make sure everyone knows that I ain't fishin' for compliments here! Just wanted a discussion on whether this material is more appropriate for a personal blog for instance.

I think if you are only a papercrafter- and don't use stamps at all- then maybe this isn't the BEST place to show your work. But if your gallery is primarily stamping- go ahead and upload the other things.

That's just what I think.

There have been a few threads about not knowing what to do with patterned paper, or two sided paper. I think, as long as some of your cards involve stamping, stamping and patterned paper, etc..you are ok....

Maybe it's a "all things in moderation" decision.

If it is a card or a scrapbook page, or paper-crafted item, go for it!

If in doubt, you can always ask a gallery mod or admin. We're here to help!

Glad you loaded the card. It is beautiful. I think non-stamped items are just fine for SCS. We can take inspiration from it and do things with our stamps. We can learn from many different types of paper crafts. Thanks for sharing.

I agree. There are alot of others like yourself who do stamping, scrapping and paper crafts. As you said, the majority of the lunch boxes and paint cans just utilize paper and some embellishments. I have seen altered notebooks that only use papers and ribbons with maybe a prima or two. I love your card and am glad you posted it!

I guess I'm in the minority. I looooove your card (stunning) and it's ok to see a few things not stamped, but I do prefer stamped items. One of the things that annoys me about, say, "Papercrafts" 'zine is that there are beautiful things but there aren't enough stamped items. I am always drawn to the stamped items! I would say a good exception is if it involves some SU products that others would like to see, like the chipboard letters for example. I hope that doesn't offend anyone, but I do come here for ideas for stamping. (Ya know... SplitcoastSTAMPERS...LOL)

Lisa, I think that you know what my answer would be, it's all about creating. IMHO, if there can be digital scrapbooking here, why not an occasional non stamped card. And I think your answer about moderation is spot on.

btw, GORGEOUS CARD Babe!

That design is beautiful!!!! (understatement) I should try some projects like that more often.

I wonder if I could ever make a card without using a single stamp . . . I should try it . . . mebbe . . . for some odd reason, the whole concept of making a card without using rubbah in some way is actually "intimidating" to me.

Is that weird or what????!!!

It would be nice if they did offer more stamped samples (with stamping as a focus, not an after-thought, by using just an alphabet, etc. UKWIM?) mixed in with all the scrapbooking stuff . . . wistful sigh . . .

It's funny you should ask.... I just did my first ABC/123 technique class last week and our "a" was an accordion book. Only after the supplies were passed out did I realize that our very first project involved NO stamping! Doh! (They were using SU paper, though, so it's all good...)

Love your card and I love getting ideas on how to keep things simple by sometimes letting the designer papers in the world speak for themselves!

You bet I do. I have several cards that I have not posted because they are not stamped. I'd love to see other non-stamped cards for inspiration.

Actually, If you asked me a couple of years ago about this, I would have said Fabulous!

BUT now I go elsewhere when I want non-stamped designs, and I post my nonstamping projects there, too.

Maybe I am just an ole stick in the mud

BTW--this is not a reflection on how much I like or dislike Lisa's project OR non-stamped project. It is just how I feel about SCS.

I think anything with paper and ink and glue is just fine. If you created it with your hands and used the basic supplies then I say go for it.

I want to know what the MODS take on Digital scrappin is though? It's not any of those traditional supplies. There is NO stamping at all. Should those still be uploaded to SplitcoastSTAMPERS gallery??? Personally, (and yes, I digi scrap!) I don't think this the the place for digi scrapped LO's. There are MANY other galleries for them. It doesn't make sense to have a gallery for these LO's when there is NO POSSIBILITY of using stamps. JMHO Sorry for the slight hijack, but I've been really curious as to why there is a digi scrapping area in the gallery.

Because that's what we decided. (sheesh, that sounds very mom-like of me, doesn't it?) But seriously. . . .
You mentioned the name of the site. Yes, it is splitcoaststampers. This place started as resource for Tracy's downline, and has turned into so much more for so many people. As Daven says on the About page, he wanted to provide a place where people would feel comfortable. I think he's accomplished that.

So. . . we evaluate the forums and gallery, and tweak things here and there to make people feel comfortable here. In looking at the gallery and forums, we noticed many of our members were talking more and more about digiscrapping, and were sharing their digi layouts with friends here. It's our thought that any scrapbooked page, digi or traditional, can be used as an inspiration piece, so why not provide a place for them?

I think there should be since I have run into this a few times myself. The funny thing is, when I have done it, it's been something with all SU products and that I could demo, but no place to show it on here.

I would love to see non-stamped items. It's just plain neat to see and get ideas from other crafts, and you might just inspire some of us to expand our crafting to more than stamping. Nothing but good can happen.

There are so many companies and items out there other than SU (don't get me wrong, SU is the almighty! ) that I think we as SCS'ers would put ourselves at a disadvantage to not put them in our galleries.
I love going to the gallery and seeing someone use an item/company I probably wouldn't normally use and *shed new light* on it or a variation on how to use it. Of course it's my wallet that feels the burn! LOL

Like you said, everything in moderation
