Default Do you remember your first stamp?

I have been stamping for approx 12 years. I was introduced to stamping by a SU demo, so SU stamps were my first.

I started to stamp when I was 14 , so 19 years ago. Think my first stamp was like a Taz stamp or something.

My first stamp was SU 'Smile'. I bought it for my kids to play with. I didn't have any intention of stamping as a hobby and wanted to buy something to help out a friend who was having a workshop. I also bought Background Basics and a YoYo Yellow and Basic Black Stamp Pads. Thought they could just stamp on Constructions paper!! Oh how times have changed.

My first stamp was purchased in JoAnns back when the only stamp pad color was black and only a die ink (generic brand). I think there was about 6 stamps to choose from. The stamp (I have no idea the manufacturer as I have unmounted the stamp) is of 2 cats. One is striped and one just furry. They are viewed from the back and their tails are innertwined. I used it for the signature for my 2 cats when ever they wrote a personal note to anyone or made a card. I still have the stamp and use it, but unfortunately, Alex and Herm are at Rainbow Bridge.

It's kinda funny how you remember things like that.

I purchased a big heart stamp--back in 1994 to stamp the bags for my gifts to the wedding party. didn't buy another stamp until 2000, when I went to my first SU party and I haven't stopped buying since!
Oh, and BTW, I still have the heart stamp!

I still have my first stamp! I bought it at a Hallmark store in 1981! It is a balloon shaped like a heart with a string attached to it. Very groovy stamped with a rainbow stamp pad...big sigh. I'll try and attach a picture of it. Check out the stained and tired rubber on this bad boy!

ETA: I used to stamp my school folders and notebooks with it. Soooo dreamy!

What a fun thread, I started stamping at a very young age probably 8 or so about 12 years ago lol and my first stamps were Winnie the pooh, looney Tunes, and Mickey Mouse stamps, and I still have them all in my first stamp box. But my first real stampin up stamp set was "whats for dinner" and have never used it

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
The sun if finally out here in Michigan!

Anyone remember Lisa Frank stuff? Like the notebooks and folders and stuff with the funky designs and bright colors? Well I had a stamp set (it was purple!) of that brand when I was probably 12 or maybe younger. I wore it out!!! After that I got into stamping again around 21 or 22 and then I was all hero arts. Don't remember what my first actual stamp was. But these days I'm a SU! only girl and my first stamp sets were Loads of love, frosty and the print pattern background stamp after I went to a Christmas card party about 4 or 5 years ago. If she had only known what she started, the demo that is, haha. Now I'm totally addicted and loads of love will always be my most fave, it's just so cute!

My first hand at stamping was when I was a child - many, many years ago. My dad had a date stamp and black ink pad. I loved sitting at the table with that date stamp. It was not very creative but that is where the thrill of stamping began.

My next venture into stamping as an adult came at Christmas time in 1994. I bought a stamp that had a cluster of tiny stars on it. I also bought a gold ink cube. I used it to stamp on my Christmas card (bought) envelopes. After that I bought a small purple ink cube. I still the stamp. That was the extent of my stamping until about 2002 (I think). I went to my first SU party and I bought Thank You blocks (which I also still have).

Myfirst stamps were from DOTS about 15 years ago. I bought them to make my christmas cards, then didn't really stamp again until a neighbor had an SU party 6 years ago. Then I bought a bunch of sets!

My first set was Hand-Painted Petites, back in about 2000. I thought it would be the most versatile and give me the most "bang for my buck" (I was on a REALLY tight budget back then). Sad to say, I never could get that set to "work" for me, but I still have it - can't bear to get rid of it!

I bought a stamp of a Cairn Terrier that looked JUST like my dog Fremont about 10 years ago.

My first SU purchase was Hedgie Wheel with the handle and black ink about 8-1/2 years ago. Of course I knew NOTHING about cleaning stamps back then and am not happy with how filthy it looks. It was the start of something big for me!

I had had some from a childrens stamping kit, unmounted rubber and a handle for them (which is now my alcohol ink applicator, with the addition of a bit of velcro.
Woodmounted, I bought 3 at a craft fair about 12, 15 years ago. I swapped one ( a detailed rose), gave one to a friend for her kids who craft ( a teddy holding a to and from label) and for sentiment's sake have kept the last one, which is an artist's palette with paints on it, brushes and a couple of tubes of paint. Some small independent English manufacturer, Sarah Jayne.

Not counting the "paid' and date stamps I 'borrowed' from my father's accounting office as a child, I actually made my first stamp. It's my name. It was in 7th grade graphic arts so I was 7 at the time. AND I still have it. We imprinted it, laid the rubber cut the wood block and adhered it to the base.

Ahhh... SU's Button Bear was my first love, and I have him and love him still. He's a classic and the reason for all the cr..., I mean, supplies in my back room! He really opened up my eyes to stamping and stamp crafting and it's been a fun journey since then!

I agree Lynn,
I had Button Bear and he was a classic. That was probably 10 years ago. I periodically purge to make money and make room for more. I hope he is happy with another stamper who enjoys him as much as I did.

When I was 11, I bought a foam-mounted stamp set at a gift shop called "The Lucky Duck" while on vacation with my family. It had waves, a sea otter, dolphins, a killer whale, and a couple of others I can't remember off the top of my head. Still have it somewhere!

My first stamps were actually ordered from the back of a cereal box in 1964 and were a set of 8 Chilly Willy & friends stamps with tiny red and black ink pads on one end of the tiny case. Every one I knew got little notes with lovingly stamped borders.
Flash forward to 1992. At a craft fair in a mall, I went crazy at a table of stamps and inks from a company in Indiana called Stampa Claus. Haven't stopped stamping since that day.

When my kids were little I put together a stamp set for them and put it in a cute tin. For many years I taught preschool and had/still have sets of children's stamps. My first adult venture into stamping was about four years ago. I bought a SU set that has eight stamps. At that time I did not know you were suppose to put the label on the box. So I do not know the name of the set. It has a happy birthday with birds on a branch, a baby stamp with a baby outfit hanging on a clothes line, a mailbox, a wicker chair, etc.

I still have my first stamp too! I bought it at a gift shop that had a small selection of rubber stamps. It's a Mary Engelbreit stamp; the one of the Santa about to go down the chimney with the word "Believe" underneath. I bought it to stamp on my envelopes when I sent out Christmas cards and bought a red stamp pad to do it with. I never cleaned it, LOL!...at least until I started to REALLY stamp and realized you were suppoed to clean the ink off!

When I really started stamping, I started out buying to make Christmas cards...I don't remember what brand it was, but my second stamp was a beautiful dove in a basket. I embossed it in gold and colored it by hand. Made about 15 cards before I pooped out. I was pregnant and had gotten stomach flu and it gave me a headache to color! Then my next stamps were from DOTS...stamps to make birth announcements. My first SU! stamps were All Season Wreath, Holiday Hannah, DD Wildflowers, and Everyday Expressions.

I'm another one who still has the first stamp she bought-it's one of the few non-SU stamps I still own. It is a medium sized Pilgram couple, very countryish (as was the style in the early 90s) that I bought on a whim at Michaels.

At the same time I bought a black stamp pad and some plain white cards w/ envelopes. I stamped the pilgrams in the center of the card and used DS's markers from his school supplies to color them in. If I still had one of those cards today, I'd probably die of humilation at the quality of of my finished project!

Mine was a tulip stamp. I was walking around an upscale mall and saw this woman heat embossing an image. I was fascinated, though I only stamped as an occasional hobby with very few supplies.

Years later I went to an SU! party and I was hooked! Now I'm totally addicted and happily so!! My first SU stamps were Along the Shore, Noble Deer, and Lovely As A Tree...all bought at that first party. I still love and use them.

I remember having a couple foam stamps as a kid (something that came in an art kit) but have no memory of what they were. The first stamp I bought was at a home-schooling convention and I still have it. I found a Raggedy Anne-type doll face with rags for hair stamp and since DH's nickname for me is Ragtop I bought it. It was made by Raindrops on Roses. My first SU! set was Mini Mates and the Gingerbread wheel.

My first stamps were many, many years ago before I ever knew about "real" rubber stamping. They were a santa face in a block and a snowflake. I'm thinking that I bought them in a Hallmark store. I'd almost forgotten they were my first.
When I really started stamping, my first set was a CTMH set with the "value" words used by our Young Women's program at church.

The first rubber stamp I purchased was a teacup image. I wanted to stamp the envelopes for my sister-in-law's bridal shower tea, did that about 50 times, and said, "enough!" The next stamp was a DIY personalized stamp kit with Classic Winnie the Pooh for my son's books back in '97, and a few years later, I went to a Stampin' Up! party and bought Botanicals and Wonderful Wings. Sigh. . I still love those!

My first stamp set was Nice & Easy Notes. I loved that I could color it in and that it had a greeting for so many occasions.

My first stamp was a tiny heart from my Uncle. I still have it and I still use it.

My very first stamps were SU's Pinecones and Lace Snowflake sets about 6 years ago.
