Do you know what is funny/strange about the SU spring catalog?
Hello all--
I am not a demonstrator, but I do like SU! products, and I love SCS now that I have found it!
What I think is funny/strange is that when I looked at the SU! spring catalog online, I was only intersted in the Office Accoutements and the Best Bar Codes sets. I had absolutely no interest in any of the others. Then I come to SCS and see all the great cards the stampers here made, and suddenly I want Doodle This, You Make Me Happy, and that Polka Dots and Petals. Seriously, I think SU should hire a bunch of you to do cards for their catalogs. MHO.

I am a demo and sometimes I think I really don't like a set and then see someone do something great with it. Alot of times I don't like the colors of the cards in the catalog so I try to be open minded. They can't get everyone's style for every sample. I am glad that you are seeing the possabilities for sets you might mot have otherwise liked.

That's why this website is so great!! Plus, we sometimes get a "sneak peek" of sets from the demos before the supplement is released. That's great!

The gallery is seriously bad for your wallet. :P
I almost always wait for about a month before ordering from any of the minis (don't know what I'll do with the new schedule), so I have a chance to watch the galleries and see what everyone else is doing.

I feel a little bad writing what I wrote bec. I didn't mean to disrespect the SU! designers, so I'm back to clarify that I just really respect the talent that I see here.
Sara: I'm not sure what you meant by the new schedule, but your comment piqued my interest. . .

I know what you meant and agree. Some sets aren't portrayed in my style and I have to see others use it before I realize that it's something I could get into.

I think it's not that you don't like what the SU designers do, it just may not always be "your style" and this site just shows how versatile a set can be and then someone with "your style" will make a card with a set you never noticed and then you have to have that set! lol! It has happened to me so many times, I have lost count.

Yep, the SU cards are looking mighty simple these days after spending so much time reading blogs and here. I have stamped long enough that I like the cards that look like a challenge to me in at least one technique or are really unique. Also most of the cards I see pictures of can be mostly SU but then contain some products from other places like Basic Grey Paper, or fancy ribbon, or a Cornish Background. I have not made a card using only SU products for quite some time. Mixing in those elements adds a zip that simple cards with nothing outside of what the company produces don't always have.

I feel the same way. And after seing samples here I have to have the set. I keep telling myself to stay away for a while, because I could really use the extra money to buy myself some new clothes, and then I end up here again. (who needs new clothes anyway? ) The cards on here are really awesome. Have you checked out the Fanclub gallery? Even more awesome cards to look at!!

I feel the same way. Sometimes I just don't have the "vision" to see the possibilities of a stamp set beyond the samples created by SU. That's why I love this site! There are so many awesome artists here who help me see all of the different ways to use any given set. It's great!

Do you think they are keep it simple in the catty so that newbies will not be overwhelmed?
I am sure that experienced creators will look at the simpler cards and say "oh if I add .... that will really pop that image".
Then of course, the newbie stampers get exposed to SCS and they realize that they can improve their style just by adding ...

Isn't that normal off all catalogs....
You pick out which sets you like, order them and are content.
Then you slowly see how cute that one is, and how you really like what they did with this one, and then next thing you know, your putting another order in for x, y, & z. It's a vicious cycle.

Most catalogues -- and SU's is no exception -- show very basic samples. I've emailed SU in the past asking them to include just a few of the wow cards that I know they can create, just to show the versatility of the images. But, they are business people and must know what they are doing!

If I didn't look at the catalog more than once or twice, I wouldn't end up ordering more than a couple sets. But I look it over a few times, just so I don't miss anything.lol Plus visiting here doesn't help.

I come here to look first to see if I want a set. I love most everything in the spring catalog. I just ordered office accoutrements. I also really like the cards in the catalog, new people, the ones we are trying to addict, need to see simple samples. Most would be completely overwhelmed when looking through the gallery here.

You hit the nail on the head. SU! intentionally puts cards in their catalog that can be re-created. I LOVE that about SU! because it caters to both the newbie AND the experienced stamper. An experienced stamper can look at something and add to it or change it to make it different while a newbie will be thrilled to do it just like it is shown.
The other thing I love about SU! sets is how versatile they really are (the galleries here are proof of that)! I've had sets for years and then see something here that makes me drag 'em out again all the time!

What I meant was that SU is coming out with two big catties a year and two minis, starting this year.
It does change things around a bit for me about how I'm going to plan my spending. Of course it might be a moot point unless I manage to find a new demo since mine is retiring at the end of June and I'm not looking forward trying to find a new one.

That happens to me all the time I won't like a set then I come to SCS and I have to have it. Also, I think I am in love with a set then I get it and I don't know what to do with it.
I definitly spend more $$$ because of all the great examples I see on this site!
