I wish that I would have heard about this BEFORE I had already mounted all of my stamps...because I definately would have mounted the words and image separately...it makes things so much more versatile. ;)

you still can! at least that's what I am hoping. I'm going to redo my "little hello's" set as soon as I can get dh to make me some new wood blocks. Thanks for the answers!
I cut the words separate from the images on that particular set. I mounted them just below the image, leaving enough room so that if I just wanted to ink the picture, the words wouldn't get inked, too.

I ALWAYS cut the words off... The only set I didn't was the Gently Falling SAB... the words were so little, it seemed it would be hard to line up if I did want them on the stamped image...
I'm the same way, I alwasy cut the words off! You can use them so many more ways. I even cut apart Gently Falling! Oh well, remember this when I scream!

agreed. My demo suggested it to me the first time I got a set with words included on the stamp, and I am so thankful! I have done this with all of them since and it helps alot! I think that it is not too late, if you put your stamp in the microwave for a few seconds, it loosens the "glue" and you can carefully pull the stamp free. Cut it and remount it as you like--I've heard that goo gone or other products like this will get the residue off your stamp, too. Anyway, that's an idea. Good luck with all!
I cut Love Ya Bunches apart and a few others I can't remember right now. That set was given to me and funny thing is the only stamps I've used is the words!
After I bought the Craft and Rubber Scissors I started to separate the words from the image wherever it's possible. This is one thing I love about SU. When I put my stamp sets together I can customize them any way I want.
a stamp with words below it? For example, the Little Hello's stamp set. Would you mount the words seperately from the image?
Nooooooooo! Never in a million years. I remember my first demo suggesting this at my first show and even then I was opposed. Oddly, I can't think of a good reason why I should be opposed, it just never seemed like the thing to do! lol!

That is the only set I did cut apart, and that was only because I earned two of them so I could have one intact and one cut apart. I'm weird though. :p

When I first started buying SU I didn't, but it didn't take me long to start! So many times I would need a word without the paticular image with it & I never could get everything to line up right. Now, it's so easy!
I even cut the heart off the top of the frog in my new Unfroggetable set. I have never needed a new block, I use the both sides of the block or the ends.
I cut apart a set (don't remember the name) that had 4 titles like birthday with the words underneath on the same stamp, so I put the title on one side and the sentiment on the other side and cut the sticker. It works great for me.
Yes yes yes! I alway separate the images as I see fit. You can use "jenga" blocks to mount your words or glue together those little square blocks in the wood section of any craft store. I even found a generic block-stacking game at Target in the dollar spot last Christmas that I can use. Or my favorite trick, not for the faint of heart.....
I actually (*drum roll*) cut the SU wood block. *GASP* I have a table top electric mitre saw. So, for my Little Hellos, I actually cut the wooden block so that the words are separate. I just measured twice and cut once! I did it before I mounted the rubber but after I mounted the clear sticker so I could see how far down to cut and leave room for my image. That saw cuts the wood clean and neatly. Now, the blocks sit perfectly together in the case and I got twice as many stamps!
BTW, it's not too late if you have already mounted yours. Just 10 seconds in the microwave will allow you to remove your rubber, then you can cut your wood or find an alternate piece of wood.
My TAC demonstrator recommended doing this for a Christmas saying that they have. The stamp has the saying and then it says "Merry Christmas" under that. She said, and this would only apply to those who have unmounted their stamps, to only make one cut between the saying and the Merry Christmas parts to seperate them. Don't try and trim those particular pieces because if you decided to use them together all you need to do is slide them right back together like puzzle pieces and they are still perfectly lined up.
I thought that this was a great tip! (Hope it made sense!)
But, then, when I needed the words with it, it never lined up right or went crooked. Now I just mask off the words. And most of the time I use stampin' spots, so its easy to not ink up the words (or images) if they're far enough away from each other.

I always cut my stamps to fit what I think I'll do the most with them. The set you mentioned, I cut the words off and mounted them on the end of the wood mount. I cut the heart off the Unfrogettable set and I cut the star off the tree in the Trim the Tree set. I use them for many other purposes that way. Just what will work for you.
I hated those words on Reverse Prints, so I cut them off and threw them away! Felt it ruined the elegance of those beautiful flowers. It was pretty easy to do with the scissors and didn't alter the image any.
